BTS Community Moderator Posted August 21, 2019 Posted August 21, 2019 Lol So the really good hitters are below average less often. YOU DONT SAY!? The negative correlation between season wRC+ and number weeks below a 100 wRC+ was particularly illuminating.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2019 Posted August 21, 2019 Correa back to the DL. Is he the new Tulo? I thought of this last night when I seen the Sanchez news, lol. Crazy how much he gets nagged by injury.
Laika Community Moderator Posted August 21, 2019 Posted August 21, 2019 The negative correlation between season wRC+ and number weeks below a 100 wRC+ was particularly illuminating. The kid's twitter bio says Dartmouth '23. The Cs in his first stats class are going to be emotional. Bizarre that he's a regular contributor on the main website and not just mucking around in the community posts section.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 22, 2019 Posted August 22, 2019 Stroshow just left with a tight hammy.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted August 22, 2019 Posted August 22, 2019 Stroshow just left with a tight hammy. Don't care.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 22, 2019 Posted August 22, 2019 Don't care. Not talking to you.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted August 22, 2019 Posted August 22, 2019 Not talking to you. You were talking to everyone. They're free to respond as well.
wk680 Verified Member Posted August 22, 2019 Posted August 22, 2019 Correa back to the DL. Is he the new Tulo? Yeah that would obviously be a shame. it reminds me of auto racing : to finish 1st you first need to finish. Durability is everything!
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 22, 2019 Posted August 22, 2019 Jon Gray pitched on a fractured foot, the last 3 times out... where was Adam Lind's mom?
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 22, 2019 Posted August 22, 2019 KC and Redsox resumed their game today from a suspended game 2 weeks ago, it lasted 12 minutes, lol. Kids got in free and tickets went for 5 bucks going to the Jimmy Fund, well done Boston sending the money to a great cause.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 22, 2019 Posted August 22, 2019 Well pitched game today by the Giants and Cubs, must suck losing 1-0 after throwing a combined 2 hitter, lol. And one of those hits were lost in the sun by Pillar, he had no chance by the way.

Nofunatall Verified Member Posted August 23, 2019 Posted August 23, 2019 Biagini getting roughed up tonight. Jeez imagine being Gerrit Cole and going 7 allowing only 2 hits and punching out 12 only to see some big ear scrub nearly blow it for you. On a more bizzare note all 3 Astros relievers tonight we're Jays within the last ~12 months.

Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted August 23, 2019 Posted August 23, 2019 Hahahahah They haven't had a single 20 homer guy since 2015?!?
BTS Community Moderator Posted August 23, 2019 Posted August 23, 2019 Nice to see Pillar have another productive year. I wonder if the last 1-2 years is going to end up looking like an outlier when it comes to good MLB vets not making any money. The Brewers are leading the NLC right now in no small part because they've received 7 fWAR from Moustakas and Grandal for like 28M worth of 1-year deals. The Twins are leading the ALC by 3.5 games and have received almost 8 fWAR from Cruz, Gonzalez, Schoop, and Perez on cheap, short-term deals. The Giants aren't going to make the playoffs, but I like that Zaidi saw an opportunity to snag a league average player that was available for free because his own team didn't want to spend 5.8 on a couple of wins, and made a move to get a little bit better. If, for some reason, veterans continue to be undervalued, there's not going to be any excuse to not at least run a close to 0.500 team out there even in down years and cross your fingers that things break right and you sneak into a WC spot. At the worst you have a veteran to sell at the deadline. Fans of all of the 100-loss teams should be pissed that their team sat out a FA market where wins could be bought for dirt cheap.
Todd Van Anus Verified Member Posted August 23, 2019 Posted August 23, 2019 Jays really need to go after Gerrit Cole when he becomes a FA.
Todd Van Anus Verified Member Posted August 23, 2019 Posted August 23, 2019 So I heard on the radio this morning that Verlander banned a reporter from his post game scrum. Anyone know why Verlander doesn't like the guy?

The Brewers are actually 3rd place right now, but your point still stands. Veterans are undervalued. Free agency is cheap. The Jays have a young core and payroll flexibility. Seems like a perfect time to take advantage of that. Of course, the Jays need SPs. The more undervalued vets seem to be the hitters. Still should be able to find 2-3 war types on the cheap either way.

Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted August 23, 2019 Posted August 23, 2019 The players' weekend jerseys being all white and all black was a horrible decision. Not only are they incredibly plain, which goes against the whole concept of Players' Weekend being about the players showing their personalities, but they're simply ugly as f***.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted August 23, 2019 Posted August 23, 2019 Also the pitchers are wearing black hats whereas the position players are wearing white hats, what's up with that?
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted August 23, 2019 Posted August 23, 2019 Also the pitchers are wearing black hats whereas the position players are wearing white hats, what's up with that? It doesn't look like they are in the ATL-NYM game.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted August 23, 2019 Posted August 23, 2019 MLB is awful at marketing. You look at the NBA and NFL, and it's night and day compared to MLB. Granted it is easier to market to a younger generation in an individual driven league like the NBA, but man, every time MLB tries to do something to appeal to a younger audience it comes off so lame.

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted August 23, 2019 Posted August 23, 2019 It doesn't look like they are in the ATL-NYM game. f***ing awful.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted August 23, 2019 Posted August 23, 2019 It doesn't look like they are in the ATL-NYM game. Huh? deGrom is wearing a black hat contrary to every other player on the field. Matz in the dugout is also wearing a black hat.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted August 23, 2019 Posted August 23, 2019 I think the intention is to provide a stark contrast to the accessories and shoes the players are wearing so as to draw more attention to those things. Not sure it worked. That would be great except you can barely see the team logos, the players' numbers and their nicknames on the white jerseys which have white font. Big time failure.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted August 23, 2019 Posted August 23, 2019 Huh? deGrom is wearing a black hat contrary to every other player on the field. Matz in the dugout is also wearing a black hat. Hmm, well I'm pretty sure the Braves position players weren't wearing white hats. Have to look more closely next inning. It just looks plain stupid to me.
