Not necessarily. They have Phegley as their only backup C and he's pretty bad, so Allen could make the team out of ST, if not he has two options remaining.

Yeah, and now blocked for me in LoD... :P

I don't know much about Heim, but he has decent numbers and projects okay defensively.

Jeeze, they gave them Austin Allen? Profar was about to get cut. Allen is like a 45 FV.

Allen is also without a position. He is not a catcher and pretty much had zero value in the NL. But the Padres are a great example of what happens when you have all the youth in place but add $30M in payroll. It changes the expectations (you want to talk about winning culture...adding a top 10 player and still losing is a quick way to take some confidence away).

As much as I hate Preller. I actually like this move. Profar is a one year commitment and should break even on a value side.

Great potential in the rotation as well. Luis Castillo 1, Sonny Gray 2, Trevor Bauer 3. They need to fill that hole at short however.

They could do worse there than Galvis, although it's certainly an area of upgrade. I don't entirely understand why they're so deadset on Senzel as a CF, but you would think he can easily slide into that hole and then they could swing a deal for an actual CF or sign a guy like Shogo Akiyama or maybe Gardner or Puig.

Moustakis deal now brings him into his 10th season and the fully vested MLB pension which is based on your 8th, 9th and 10th seasons. Maybe he knew what he was doing all along to maximize his long-term earnings

Another big blow to our front office. Steve Sanders (head of amateur scouting) is leaving the Jays to go to Pittsburgh with Cherington.

Really sucks. Our amateur drafts were great under him.

Astros parting ways with Sanchez, not a surprise

I'm sure that's a surprise to quite a few people on here that were enraged at the mere suggestion that Sanchez would be non tendered.

Yeah I remember that. Some posts have aged very badly.

I was firmly on the Sanchez Sucks bandwagon but he’s going to miss most of 2020 (if not all). The Astros might have NT him anyway even if he was healthy but I guess we will never know.

There's little doubt that they would have tendered him a contract had the injury not occured., but they probably made the right decision now.

I was going to ask if this discussion was pre/post injury?

Wow, Taijuan Walker got non-tendered? How fast would you offer him a contract, fast or very fast?

Hmmm.... someone knows something about his arm that we don't

Seems like a good fit. Low cost with mid-rotation upside. Potentially a good bridge to our youngsters.

I like the fit as well but I think the mid rotation upside ship has sailed for him. He never ate innings and at his best was only a 2.5 win starter. If he's being non-tendered his arm is probably cooked so I would have extremely low expectations.

I think that's his upside if healthy. Make him stop throwing the damn splitter, and you have an above average fastball, slider, and curve. Give him a bonus structure based on games started or something.

I have issues with this being called domestic violence. Sounds like Dyson threw a cardboard box with a cat in it. You can throw a cat across a room and it will land on its feet and not get hurt, depending on how you throw it. Based on that post, I would imagine that the cat's "mommy" was being an idiot in some way. Its not illegal to break a box. #MeowToo

100% agree. Canceling Sam Dyson over a cat's instagram post would be retarded.

He's a solid 2 win centre fielder....which one of our centre fielders is a 2 win player?

1.5 fwar in 2019, projected for 1.4 fwar in 2020. Most of the value from fielding. Noodle bat 85 wRC+

Hard pass.

Take away the handful of at bats he had with the Jays where he was an emotional wreck knowing he was about to be traded and he put a 93 OPS+ for the Giants. He was a 2 win player for them. I'm not advocating we sign him, but he's better than Hernandez.

Phils non-tender Cesar Hernandez, has played 2B, SS, 3B, CF over his career

Would be a good pickup and stick Drury in Buffalo until he learns to hit again

Teams will want him. The Giants just didn't want him at his expected arbitration salary.
