saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted November 20, 2019 Posted November 20, 2019 Smart ass bastard, lol we need to find some new posters for this board. Spanky's now responding to himself and throwing in a lol to boot.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted November 20, 2019 Posted November 20, 2019 If you count arb projections, the Braves have now committed 45.7M to Melancon, Smith, Martin, Greene, Jackson, and O'Day in 2020. Rockies super bullpen v2.0
BTS Community Moderator Posted November 20, 2019 Posted November 20, 2019 Rockies super bullpen v2.0 Yeah, that's my feeling too. The only one I really trust to be great is Smith.
Laika Community Moderator Posted November 20, 2019 Posted November 20, 2019 Reportedly Ljay Newsome is being left exposed in the Rule 5
TheHurl Site Manager Posted November 20, 2019 Posted November 20, 2019 Reportedly Ljay Newsome is being left exposed in the Rule 5 Dude just doesn't walk anyone. Induces weak contact and curveball is supposed to be really good. Interesting guy.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted November 21, 2019 Posted November 21, 2019 Damn, Reds got Jose De Leon for PTBNL from the Rays. I think they need to clear 3 more spots still. Whether it is a reliever or a back up player there is value to be had
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted November 21, 2019 Posted November 21, 2019 They cut Matt Duffy lol. Duffy would be a real nice replacement for Drury.
keggy Verified Member Posted November 21, 2019 Posted November 21, 2019 Using cameras to steal signs is explicitly illegal. If a player/coach on the field steals a sign, that's ok, but teams are not allowed to use technology to do so. I don't know what the rulebook says, but coaches stealing signs is definitely frowned upon among baseball people. The only purely accepted form of sign stealing is between the foul lines, by uniformed players on the field of play. Sign stealing by 1st/3rd base coaches, managers, bench coaches, and players from the bench will often lead to retaliation against the batter.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted November 21, 2019 Posted November 21, 2019 Grandal to the White Sox. Four years, $73 million. Good for him to get that money. The one year deal last year pays off.

That's a great deal for the white Sox. Reminds me of when we got Martin in 2015. At worst he is worth 8 wins over next 2 years alone
jaysguy44 Old-Timey Member Posted November 21, 2019 Posted November 21, 2019 So uh, what happens to James McCann?
BTS Community Moderator Posted November 21, 2019 Posted November 21, 2019 Some pretty big contracts given out so far: Martin 2/14 Smith 3/40 Grandal 4/73 Things still moving a bit slow, but its kind of nice that weirdly low FA contracts isn't the story of the offseason so far.
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted November 21, 2019 Posted November 21, 2019 So uh, what happens to James McCann? He can be a backup like he probably is
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted November 21, 2019 Posted November 21, 2019 26 man roster probably may see the Sox carry 3 catchers, and Grandal with a fair bit of DH time to keep him healthy.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted November 21, 2019 Posted November 21, 2019 So uh, what happens to James McCann? He's only got 1 year left before free agency. Either you keep him this year and play him against all lefties (Grandal's weaker side) or you look for a deal.

This FA class is actually pretty good so wouldn't surprise me if most players end up getting paid well. We'll just have to wait a damn eternity for the signings to actually happen.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted November 21, 2019 Posted November 21, 2019 We'll just have to wait a damn eternity for the signings to actually happen. Maybe. Maybe not. I kind of get a feeling that more teams than normal are either unwilling or unable to spend on the top guys. If that's the case, the market may not get held up to the same degree as previous years while people wait for Boras to emerge from hibernation.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted November 21, 2019 Posted November 21, 2019 So uh, what happens to Zack Collins? fify McCann is a backup who simply had a good year.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted November 21, 2019 Posted November 21, 2019 Took Grandal long enough to get a deserved longer contract worth decent money, though he'll likely outproduce the value of the deal again. Good for him.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted November 21, 2019 Posted November 21, 2019 fify McCann is a backup who simply had a good year. I don't think Zack Collins is even a catcher, probably a 1B/DH which isn't saying much since he's not a great hitter. Scouts really didn't like his defense and he was a butcher in limited time in the MLB, doesn't bode well for him.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 21, 2019 Posted November 21, 2019 Yankees release Jacoby Ellsbury. Still owe him 2 years salary worth 26M. Greg Bird DFA
Barkerfan23 Verified Member Posted November 21, 2019 Posted November 21, 2019 Yankees release Jacoby Ellsbury. Still owe him 2 years salary. Greg Bird DFA Goes on to show you. You can throw out 300 plate appearances it means nothing unless a player consistently shows an mlb bat Bird hit 20 home runs in his first 348 plate appearances and his k rate was around 26 percent
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted November 22, 2019 Posted November 22, 2019 Yankees release Jacoby Ellsbury. Still owe him 2 years salary worth 26M. Greg Bird DFA Ellsbury is done. I could see some teams interested in rolling the dice on Bird. Wouldn't write him off just yet.

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted November 22, 2019 Posted November 22, 2019 Would love to see the Blue Jays sign Drew Pomeranz for the BP. He was lights out last year after making the move to the BP. Has Andrew Miller BP type potential IMO.
