I think it should have gotten more, yes. What did he get, 8 games? He punched the guy in the face, clear as day. He should have gotten a much stiffer suspension.

 

If you're asking whether I think Odor's punch should get more than a legitimate domestic violence incident? No of course not. I was just pointing out the absurdity that Odor punching a man in the face in front of thousands of people on camera got a fairly light suspension while German slapping a woman in the face (assuming that's all that happened) in front of an MLB employee will last for god knows how long. Not saying it's right or wrong, just strange how that works.

No, because one incident happened in a game, the other was done in a public street/venue under a DV incident, completely different and is against the law, duh?!

False equivalency. A man that assaults a wife/girlfriend is probably not going to do it just once, and many times these things end up becoming very serious / fatal.

Odor assaulted opposing players in the minors too. It's on video. What he did to Bautista was a repeat offense. And Kermit Washington punching Rudy Tomjanovich happened on a basketball court. That didn't make it any less of an assault either.

 

Regardless I'm not comparing DV to fights in a sporting event. I'm just saying when MLB (and other sports) decide to play the police on issues like this, it's just strange how different their views are depending on who punched/slapped who.

Obviously a lot of it is MLB appeasing segments of its fanbase, who would be much more upset by a player assaulting a wife vs. an on field brawl.

it is worse to hit a woman, most of the time. try it - go out there in the world and smack one.

 

odor's punch was much more acceptable because of the setting. it's a professional sport where people get beaned in the head. there is an implied contract to accept some violence.

Listen, we as a society have decided that women are to be protected. That is perfectly rational. Literally every animal species on earth protects their females first and foremost. It's like what Bill Burr says, there are plenty of reasons to hit a woman but you just don't do it. We've all probably been in very serious arguments, and not hitting your wife or GF really isn't that hard.

Dude do you know how many people would be in prison if every fistfight was illegal? For a fist fight to be a chargeable criminal offense the victim actually has to file a report (I thought this is pretty common knowledge?). Now in domestic violence cases it's pretty much an auto-file because of the history of underreporting these incidents. If a baseball player wanted to charge another one with assault for an incident on the field I'm sure they are legally able to do so. Whether they get coerced by the union to keep it in house is another issue.

Nothing to see here imo. He BABIP'd his way to middling numbers this year in AAA. We have enough clogging up the 40 man. No reason to add someone like him for the final week.
