Ex Player Verified Member Posted June 24, 2019 Posted June 24, 2019 Yeah, Rosenthal is still throwing 100, he just has no idea where it's going. It makes a ton of sense to bring him in at league in and see if he finds his control How the heck can a guy lose his control like that??
BTS Community Moderator Posted June 24, 2019 Posted June 24, 2019 How the heck can a guy lose his control like that?? Get TJS and not pitch for a year.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2019 Posted June 24, 2019 Every single AB Pujols has been loved, STL fans greet a great with respect.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2019 Posted June 24, 2019 Get TJS and not pitch for a year. Shh... ex-player knows!
keggy Verified Member Posted June 24, 2019 Posted June 24, 2019 Nationals released Rosenthal, can we please sign him? Might be another Ken Giles type project. Nothing wrong with a minor league contract, but it's important to note that he's borderline unplayable at Dunedin in his current state. It's not fair to compare Ken Giles last year who had a mediocre year in the Majors underperforming his peripherals with a guy who put up -0.4 wins in while recording 19 outs.
Ex Player Verified Member Posted June 24, 2019 Posted June 24, 2019 Get TJS and not pitch for a year. But lots of pitchers have gotten Tommy John surgery and not lost their control like that. There's gotta be something more going on
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2019 Posted June 24, 2019 But lots of pitchers have gotten Tommy John surgery and not lost their control like that. There's gotta be something more going on lots of MLB pitchers come back and struggle with location and mechanics, like all the time. You're not paying attention.
Ex Player Verified Member Posted June 24, 2019 Posted June 24, 2019 lots of MLB pitchers come back and struggle with location and mechanics, like all the time. You're not paying attention Not to that extent though. He walked over 2 guys per inning
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2019 Posted June 24, 2019 Not to that extent though. He walked over 2 guys per inning How many innings? Look at his prior stats, it's from injury, bud.
Ex Player Verified Member Posted June 24, 2019 Posted June 24, 2019 How many innings? Look at his prior stats, it's from injury, bud I know the injury plays a large part, but I'm saying there's got to be something more going on besides that
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2019 Posted June 24, 2019 I know the injury plays a large part, but I'm saying there's got to be something more going on besides that You must be new to relievers. They just...stop working sometimes. If he manages to stick in the league he could just as easily be an elite reliever next season, it's just how it goes.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2019 Posted June 24, 2019 I know the injury plays a large part, but I'm saying there's got to be something more going on besides that I said it, coming off TJS a new elbow and mechanics, some never get back.
Ex Player Verified Member Posted June 24, 2019 Posted June 24, 2019 I said it, coming off TJS a new elbow and mechanics, some never get back Could also be some kind of mental thing going on
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2019 Posted June 24, 2019 Could also be some kind of mental thing going on I Said Good Day!
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2019 Posted June 24, 2019 Angel actually got a close call right!
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2019 Posted June 24, 2019 Could the Angels please get this final out before it costs me placing in a DFS match?
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2019 Posted June 24, 2019 Could the Angels please get this final out before it costs me placing in a DFS match? lol... I wanted the loss.
BTS Community Moderator Posted June 24, 2019 Posted June 24, 2019 Nice to see Votto maybe turning it around. Slashing 356/427/544 in the last month to get his season wRC+ back to 100. Hopefully he keeps it up, because a couple more average seasons would help cement his HoF case.

Maybe a bit less then a coin flip. He will not end up with gaudy counting stats. He has one MVP but probably doesn't have a big hardware boost. No championships or playoff glory. His case will be very WAR dependent. His consistency and longevity will help. AVG will help and his historic OBP should help a decent amount. One more elite season would cement his case.

Yeah, I don't think he gets in if he retires today. As you say, the counting stats aren't there and he's had no team success. It's purely a WAR/wRC+ case. There's probably 3 paths to him getting in: - another monster season - being consistently productive, but not elite, through the end of his contract - contributing meaningfully to a Reds championship He's still about 10 fWAR away from guys like Gwynn, Edgar, Raines, and Molitor.

At first I misread that as 'Baines'. Then I got upset thinking about how stupid it is that he was elected to the HOF. Thanks.

As we have seen though, a player's perceived talent during their career is sometimes a deciding factor. The reputation of their unique talent level, in other words. Votto has that going for him. He has a solid reputation as being the most disciplined hitter, having the best batting eye in all of baseball, for about a decade. His personal reputation could help or harm him. People seem to like his personality but he has also been a bit of a dick historically. He's popular as hell on social media but who knows what the older writers think of him. We do know that lots of older writers probably think he is terribly overrated - not enough produkshun, not enough team success.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted June 25, 2019 Posted June 25, 2019 Morales is released by the Yankees.
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted June 25, 2019 Author Posted June 25, 2019 Morales is released by the Yankees. Inevitable once Stanton was back.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted June 25, 2019 Posted June 25, 2019 Morales has a -1.2 WAR and 96 wRC+ since the Jays signed him. $33 millon flushed down the drain, although at least we got some international dough out of it.

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted June 25, 2019 Posted June 25, 2019 So in a 3 day span last year, Mozeliak traded Voit, Pham and Mercado and got back basically Giovanny Gallegos? Whew, more trades with the Cards please. Gallegos has been good this season with the Cards, but yeah awful move by Mozeliak. Gave up a lot of valuable pieces.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted June 26, 2019 Posted June 26, 2019 That's interesting. They said in the COL-SF game that when umpires receive their report, pitches are given 2 inches of leeway. So a ball that's 2 inches off the plate is basically still considered a correct call no matter what that call is.
