Actually I don't have the answers and instead of making some wild ass guess and spewing the nonsense in my head around the internet - I just wait and listen for more information. The concept must be foreign to you guys out east.

His agent should never work again. “I mean, I see it this way. If I left dollars on the table, I’m going to play hard to get it in four or five years, seven years,” Albies said. “If I left it on the table, it’s good that now I know I can get it then, coming back.” Wow. This kid was totally taken advantage of. I don't even blame AA, he just gave him a silly offer that he was stupid enough to accept. The agent deserves to get fired for this.
43211234 Verified Member Posted April 12, 2019 Posted April 12, 2019 The only logical conclusion is that Albies has secretly been diagnosed with terminal cancer and tried to maximize his earnings over the next year.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted April 12, 2019 Posted April 12, 2019 161 million reasons to retire. If he retires he loses the contract. He actually has to get cut in order to still get paid. That, or have a career ending injury where he stays on the DL for years like Prince Fielder

Laika Community Moderator Posted April 12, 2019 Posted April 12, 2019 There was a long-form SI or The Athletic article on Chris Davis in the fall. It's a pretty good read - really gets into his mind as he makes a billion dollars while being the worst player in the sport. Him and his wife seem very religious, very much "god's plan" people. I think this is it: https://www.si.com/mlb/2018/09/24/chris-davis-baltimore-orioles

Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted April 12, 2019 Posted April 12, 2019 Anyone notice who's missing from the banner?
glory Old-Timey Member Posted April 12, 2019 Posted April 12, 2019 Anyone notice who's missing from the banner? Mike Trout might be the greatest to ever play baseball but probably wouldn't get recognized by more than 25% of the population in the United States. Baseball is falling in popularity but that's still really sad.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted April 12, 2019 Posted April 12, 2019 Anyone notice who's missing from the banner? It's a travesty that neither of Scherzer or Verlander are in this.

I maintain that the Braves look bad for playing a role in this.

DigitalRock Old-Timey Member Posted April 12, 2019 Posted April 12, 2019 Anyone notice who's missing from the banner? MLB seem pretty incompetent with some things (Replay), and one of those is marketing their stars.
BTS Community Moderator Posted April 12, 2019 Posted April 12, 2019 That sure sounds like malpractice. Taking advantage of these kids, what f***ing scumbags I don’t see how the MLBPA can let Albies’ agent continue. 9 years for 45M is unconscionable. It was obvious from the moment it was released that something nefarious went on behind the scenes.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted April 12, 2019 Posted April 12, 2019 MLB seem pretty incompetent with some things (Replay), and one of those is marketing their stars. According to MLB, it's Mike Trout's fault that one of the best players in the history of the game doesn't end up in any of MLB's marketing.

The new Moneyball: sign talented kids from dirt poor families and throw millions at them early in their careers before they realize they are accepting a 3rd of what they could make in the future.

BTS Community Moderator Posted April 12, 2019 Posted April 12, 2019 lol I assumed there'd at least be a signing bonus this year to give him a few million immediately. But no, he gets a raise from 560k to 1M.

Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted April 12, 2019 Posted April 12, 2019 Fangraphs giving out an 80 bat but it's not Vlad! 12:36 Reid: Hi Eric, thanks for the chat. How would you go about grading Astudillo’s hit tool? The feel for contact is obviously incredible, but how do you evaluate “plate discipline” for someone who swings at everything? 12:37 Eric A Longenhagen: he’ll be on next week’s Twins list and we’re dropping an 8 on the bat Astudillo is such an 80, that they should probably go back and change every other 80 they've ever given to a 70 or 75
Laika Community Moderator Posted April 12, 2019 Posted April 12, 2019 Willians Astudillo is very much my favourite baseball player ever and it's not even close.
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted April 12, 2019 Author Posted April 12, 2019 lol Heyman still isn’t backing down on his “it’s not a bad deal”:
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted April 12, 2019 Author Posted April 12, 2019 Because Schoop’s career earnings are totally comparable to Albies’ value. That’s the Schoop who in his career of 5 and a bit seasons has provided less than 3 career WAR more than Albies in his 1 and a bit seasons.
