Signs of concern his velocity is down which is usually a precursor to a possible health issue. I'm sure the Red Sox are aware of the situation and hope he'll be OK with no guarantees.

This isn't the first time his velocity has been down if I'm not mistaken.

It happen back toward the end of the 2017 season it was due to workload fatigue too many innings pitched. Surely this isn't the case this time it's too early in the season.

They have a team that could quietly surprise a lot of people. Their outfield of Pham, Kiermaier, and Meadows looks legit, Adames at SS, Yandy Diaz at 3rd could be a breakout guy (or continue his breakout from last year), Lowe/Robertson/Duffy/Wendle form a nice combo at 2nd/3rd/DH. Maybe they can fix Zunino offensively. I mean, that's a lineup with a lot of underrated talent. Their starting pitching of Snell, Morton, Glasnow and 'openers' followed by Chirinos and Yarbrough might be one of the better ones in baseball.

Nate Lowe will be their first baseman soon as well, most likely.

Dead arm is very common in April. Might be that.

The movement as it enters the swing plane.....F I L T H Y.

what the f*** is that first pitch? a 97 MPH cutter?

Dead arm can happened in spring training where there's a lot of throwing going on early everyday but if it happens they usually shut the individual down as rest is needed to recoup. Sale wasn't shut down like every pitcher he had limited pitch count and stretched out to begin the season. Sale had shoulder inflammation last year where he was very limited toward the end of regular season I think his dead arm issue might be more related to his shoulder issue.

Ozzie Albies just signed an extension for 7 year and $35M with 2 option years.

$35 million for 7 years for a guy that had a near 4 WAR season at age 21.

AA was always good at getting guys to sign s***** contracts. Wonder how he does it?

His 2 option years are worth $7M each, so in total he's looking at $45M over 9 years if his options are exercised.

How does this deal make any sense from Albies perspective? He's giving away 5 years of free agency for nothing.

Albies gave away his prime for a sandwich. Damn. If he kept on this path he may have gotten more than $35 mil in three years of arbitration, or at least close to it.

Between this and the Acuna deal, the players will no longer get sympathy from me. I know there’s a possible lockout and you want to cover yourself, but giving away your entire 20’s for $40 mil means you can’t complain when you’re being lowballed as a free agent in your 30’s.

Why should the decision(s) of one or two players paint your opinion of the entire collective of players? Kind of weird.

Sure, if Albies complains about his compensation he won't deserve any sympathy.

How in the f*** can Eloy Jimenez get more guaranteed money than Ozzie Albies without ever seeing a single pitch in the majors? Meanwhile, Albies has proven that he can put up 3.8 WAR in a season.

This Albies extension is the worst one I have ever seen and I can't even think of something comparable. Not only should he fire his agent, but he should be advised to sue his agent for malpractice.

Ok maybe no sympathy for all players is harsh but still it’s setting a bad tone. This and the Acuna deal are hurting the players. I could understand giving up a year or two of your free agent years to get guaranteed money in your first six years but when the good young players are signing for peanuts, it’s just going to hurt the rest of the league. If a player’s 20’s is projected to be worth over $200 mil (for example) and he signs for $35 mil over the life of it, that’s pretty darn stupid and you can bet other teams will use it as a base line when dealing with their players.

Albies clearly has a very bad agent.

I don't even think AA should be lauded for this. This contract is so bad for the player that I honestly feel sorry for him, and it's a bad look for the Braves org.

I also don't really understand the motivation for Albies to sign a deal like this. After this season he'll be up to ~1.5M in career earnings, and he's been good enough at the MLB level that he knows there are millions more in his future. This isn't a kid who has no idea if he can play in the majors. He's already rich, and about to get really rich, even going year to year.

You have no f***ing idea what's happening. Just stop.

I agree. This is so bad that it almost feels like Albies is being taken advantage of.

That's how I feel. I don't know if this is AA taking advantage of young kids who have never seen this type of money before (don't know what their childhood situations were) or if these players just have really, really bad agents. This is not life altering money by MLB standards, certainly not over a 9 year period. It's just a bad look all around.

Haha, this is a terrible take. What an amazing deal for Atlanta, Albies wasn’t forced to sign the contract.

Enjoy the work stoppage that will be the ultimate result of deals like this.

This. Show me the gun to his head and I'll change my stance. AA is just doing his job...and very well.

"We're striking cause we're signing deals, without coercion, that maybe we shouldn't sign. We're stupid! Let's strike!"
