BTS Community Moderator Posted February 12, 2019 Posted February 12, 2019 It will be interesting to see how the 150 inning pitcher develops. Up to recently you had full time starters 32 starts 200 innings or so, and relievers 65 games 65 innings or so. So now where does it go?? Do you start seeing these roles merge into just Pitcher?? Do conventional relievers start pitching more?? I'm kind of afraid it's going to be this for like 90% of pitchers. The odd legit SP, and then an army of 2-3 inning guys who work a couple times a week.

King Old-Timey Member Posted February 12, 2019 Posted February 12, 2019 lol passan, this team is f***ing terrible
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted February 12, 2019 Posted February 12, 2019 Caveat emptor for any baseball GM who drafts someone with a legitimate shot at any other sport. The monetary rewards are just so much sooner in other sports. I guess it's fitting that Beane is the one to take a loss here since he's the father of gaming the CBA.
BTS Community Moderator Posted February 12, 2019 Posted February 12, 2019 lol passan, this team is f***ing terrible That's a sub-replacement level team and Jeff Passan is stupid.
Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted February 12, 2019 Posted February 12, 2019 God, not even having an opener 5/5 days would save that abortion of a pitching staff.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted February 12, 2019 Posted February 12, 2019 I swear this is the first time I have seen the name Adam Rosales, and Ryan Flaherty barely rings a bell.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted February 12, 2019 Posted February 12, 2019 Lol STUNNING!! Look at all those studs. Collusion!
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted February 12, 2019 Posted February 12, 2019 He might not be wrong - that could be a better team than the post-Manny Orioles.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted February 12, 2019 Posted February 12, 2019 He might not be wrong - that could be a better team than the post-Manny Orioles. He'd be more likely to be right if he didn't pick names with minor league contracts out of a hat.
Laika Community Moderator Posted February 12, 2019 Posted February 12, 2019 For every Jason Hammel or whoever who signs a minor league deal, there is a corresponding young player who is given an opportunity. I don't really understand why people care so much about the volume of MLB players from 2018 who are free agents. Sure, it is the pits to see stars and solid (projected) MLB players not get signed, but they will eventually all get signed.
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted February 12, 2019 Posted February 12, 2019 Romo signing with the Marlins. Obviously it was money or location over winning... Not that we offered much more of that.. I would have been ok with Romo for our BP and hoping to flip at the deadline...
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted February 12, 2019 Posted February 12, 2019 I'd be very interested in Jake Diekman on a minor-league deal.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted February 13, 2019 Posted February 13, 2019 Romo probably chose the Marlins because he must like Florida, and his flyball tendencies are better suited for large ballparks like in Miami, instead of the AL East. Still lots of RP available, though..
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted February 13, 2019 Posted February 13, 2019 That's a sub-replacement level team and Jeff Passan is stupid. I honestly forgot that a lot of these guys still exist tbh
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted February 13, 2019 Posted February 13, 2019 I swear this is the first time I have seen the name Adam Rosales, and Ryan Flaherty barely rings a bell. The only reason I remember Adam Rosales is because of the home run he hit that Angel Hernandez said wasn't a home run, watched the replay where it was an obvious home run, and still ruled it wasn't a home run. Would have tied or gave the A's the lead in the 9th iirc
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted February 13, 2019 Posted February 13, 2019 Passan is a toilet. That team would get rocked by AAA Buffalo.

Laika Community Moderator Posted February 13, 2019 Posted February 13, 2019 I am starting to get very annoyed that Harper, Machado, Kimbrel, and Keuchel are unsigned. It's all I think about.

I have both MLBTR and the DraftKings news apps on my phone. Because MLBTR covers everything, I don't get overly excited by their notifications until I've read it and can react accordingly. But when I see the DK logo pop up in my status bar, I legit get excited because they only report the notable news during the offseason (aka the "big' signings). This morning it popped up, but it was only to announce the Nola extension. I was so disappointed, as I was hoping for one of the big four, or even Marwin. Just sign, you bastards!

An interesting investment though. With the US opening up much more sports betting, and a decent chance Canada follows suit soon, live sports could explode in viewership.
Ray Verified Member Posted February 13, 2019 Posted February 13, 2019 Nola signed an extesion with the Phillies buying out 2 of his free agent years
Laika Community Moderator Posted February 13, 2019 Posted February 13, 2019 We will maybe see a lot more players do this going forward (give up a couple of free agency years via extension). Two years ago, almost no chance Aaron Nola's agent would let him sign that.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted February 13, 2019 Posted February 13, 2019 Yeah don’t blame Nola for that. Pitchers are injury risks and teams are cheaping out on free agents. If players realize that 0-6 are the only years teams care about, then they might be more open to these types of deals since teams will be willing to pay more for those years plus a couple of free agent years. Free agency doesn’t pay off anymore.

Free agency pays off if you're as good as Nola lol, but with that said I can totally understand him going with some security and having the self awareness that he's a pitcher and any pitch could be his last.
