Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted February 7, 2019 Posted February 7, 2019 He's getting roasted in the comments section lol. Reporters tend to have pretty bad opinions related to the sport itself, especially the ones that often break major signings or trades. OTOH, this could literally be Jones' agent telling him to tweet that out in exchange for having first dibs on a certain deal with another client of his. That's true but he could have appealed to his leadership or whatever rather than throwing out ******** that literally everyone can see is ********. Even casuals know Jones isn't good.
BTS Community Moderator Posted February 7, 2019 Posted February 7, 2019 https://blogs.fangraphs.com/lets-talk-about-a-bunch-of-proposed-changes-to-baseball/ 76% of FG readers support 26-man rosters. Anyone else surprised by this? It doesn't seem desirable to me at all. We already have too many specialists. I guess there's this: September rosters would be limited to 28 players, and non-September rosters could feature a maximum of 12 pitchers. But still, meh.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted February 7, 2019 Posted February 7, 2019 I just got a text from someone who is almost never wrong that Realmuto trade is finalized. I assume this is the Phillies Alfaro, Sixto + deal.

Slot Machine Verified Member Posted February 7, 2019 Posted February 7, 2019 I'd say the risk/reward heavily favours going for it.

Maybe just do it in a funny way saying "if rumours are true, Marlins are looking to upstage the NBA, making the biggest trade on NBA trade deadline day". I have PM'ed you the source's name.

I have PM'ed you the source's name. you know Joel Sherman? Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports that a J.T. Realmuto trade to the Phillies is "down to physical reviews" and the agreement on a third piece. The two big pieces in the return package for Miami would be top pitching prospect Sixto Sanchez and catcher Jorge Alfaro. Mickey Moniak, Alec Bohm, Adonis Medina, and Adam Haseley are among the other Phillies prospects being discussed. Sherman notes that nothing is finalized yet, but it does sound like there is a strong framework in place for this swap to get done -- possibly by the end of the day Thursday. Realmuto, 27, has also been connected recently to the Braves, Reds, Padres, and Dodgers.
Laika Community Moderator Posted February 7, 2019 Posted February 7, 2019 That's a s*** trade for Philly
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted February 7, 2019 Posted February 7, 2019 Gotta wonder if the next domino is Harper to the Phils
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted February 7, 2019 Posted February 7, 2019 Yeah that's a good trade for Philly. Improves Alfaro to Realmuto which changes their Catcher situation from one of the worst in MLB to the best for 2 seasons. All it costs is Sixto Sanchez? No brainer.

Laika Community Moderator Posted February 7, 2019 Posted February 7, 2019 well - which one is it? Probably depends what you think of Jorge Alfaro. I guess it's a fair trade. Alfaro has been decently productive but there is downside risk there. I retract my penis up into my body.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted February 7, 2019 Posted February 7, 2019 Woops I misread what Laika said. Alfaro isn't very good. He's put up decent stats so far in 500 career ABs but it's been fueled by a .405 BABIP. When that normalizes his number are going to crash big time. Strikeout rate of 35%. He doesn't appear to be a good pitch framer either. Steamer projects a 77 wRC+ for him. He's a backup which means in this market he's worth next to nothing and I don't think he's much better than Andrew Knapp anyway. Sanchez is a solid prospect but he's a 20 year old pitcher. Good prospect but I'd give him up to acquire two years of 3.5 to 5 WAR play from the C spot any day.
Laika Community Moderator Posted February 7, 2019 Posted February 7, 2019 Alfaro is a bit of a freak athlete. Cannon arm, big raw power that should show up at some point. I think he's going to be pretty good, he just doesn't project to be good right now. He's like a rich man's JPA.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted February 7, 2019 Posted February 7, 2019 Would 100% move Sixto Sanchez + whatever else they give up to upgrade on Alfaro for Realmuto. They’re all in on Harper it seems. If Harper ends up in PHI everybody who wants to see Trout and Harper on the same team might get their wish

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted February 7, 2019 Posted February 7, 2019 Marlins get one risk laden asset for Realmuto. Seems about right. On Longenhagen chat thats going on now, chatter that Luis Garcia is included.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted February 7, 2019 Posted February 7, 2019 Jeff Passan says it's done. Sixto, Alfaro, Will Stewart and intl bonus money for Realmuto.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted February 7, 2019 Posted February 7, 2019 Really good deal for the Phillies IMO.
BTS Community Moderator Posted February 7, 2019 Posted February 7, 2019 The Marlins couldn't do better than this? I wonder if the Rays offered like, Jesus Sanchez+ or something, and the Marlin were dead set on a power arm as the headliner.

It seems about right after you saw what they accepted for 2 years of M.Ozuna...

P2F Old-Timey Member Posted February 7, 2019 Posted February 7, 2019 Isn't there legitimate concern about Sixto's longterm health?
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted February 7, 2019 Posted February 7, 2019 You need to give teams a full off-season to plan their rosters. No one in the NL has a Morales style player (all bat, no field). You need give them fair notice and allow them to chase down career DH's to add to their roster. I'm pretty sure Morales is available to any NL team that would like him...
Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted February 7, 2019 Posted February 7, 2019 This is an awful trade for the Marlins. Alfaro f***ing suxxx and Sanchez's arm is going to explode.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted February 7, 2019 Posted February 7, 2019 I really like Sixto. Think it is better than most of rumoured returns. I can't say anything positive about Alfaro cause it would lead to multiple offers from Dinger
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted February 8, 2019 Posted February 8, 2019 Good news, everyone! The Disabled List (DL) will now officially be called the Injured List (IL). We wouldn't want to offend the actual disabled or something, I guess.

King Old-Timey Member Posted February 8, 2019 Posted February 8, 2019 Is anyone here in favour of the pitcher hitting in the NL?
