Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted January 11, 2019 Posted January 11, 2019 BVW essentially refused to include McNeil in the Cano trade, assuming the reports are accurate. If McNeil does get traded, I'll be curious to see what the return is that ultimately pries him away.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted January 11, 2019 Posted January 11, 2019 What happened to that catcher who bunted, and caught a great game against Mexico in the greatest game ever in Canadian baseball history? Canada has back to back Pan Am gold medals...Chris Robinson is at Centrefield Sports in London with Stern

TheHurl Site Manager Posted January 11, 2019 Posted January 11, 2019 I hear $20M for Betts to avoid arbitration. I kind of want him to go to Arbitration next year to see where they go from there.
Ehjays Verified Member Posted January 11, 2019 Posted January 11, 2019 Yankees To Sign DJ LeMahieu 11:43am: LeMahieu is heading to the Yankees, tweets Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic. His contract is believed to be a two-year deal with a guarantee in the range of $24MM. 11:40am: The Yankees are closing in on a two-year contract with free-agent second baseman DJ LeMahieu, reports Jack Curry of the YES Network (Twitter links). New York’s plan for LeMahieu is to use him as a multi-positional asset, where he’ll see time at second base, third base and even at first base, per Curry. With LeMahieu and Troy Tulowitzki now in the fold, Manny Machado looks to be less of a fit in the Bronx than ever, although the addition of those two players certainly doesn’t preclude a signing. There’s been talk earlier this winter of the possibility that the Yanks could yet move an infielder, and Tulowitzki’s league-minimum salary doesn’t represent much of an impediment if the Yankees decide to alter their course. That said, there’s no denying that today’s agreement with LeMahieu does seem to make that long-speculated match with Machado considerably less plausible. The Yankees’ infield now likely consists of Miguel Andujar at third base, Tulowitzki at short, Gleyber Torres at second base and Luke Voit at first, with LeMahieu filling in as a versatile super-sub and Greg Bird also on hand as an option at first base. Didi Gregorius, of course, will join that mix later this season when he is sufficiently recovered from Tommy John surgery. It’s a crowded mix but a deep and highly talented one that should provide the Yankees plenty of insurance against injury while also allowing them to field a strong lineup even on days when their top bats are resting.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted January 11, 2019 Posted January 11, 2019 Jack Curry of YES Network reports that the Yankees are closing in on a two-year contract with DJ LeMahieu. Curry says that the Yankees plan to use LeMahieu -- who will earn $24 million, per Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic -- at second, third and first base. The fit is a strange one, as the Yanks already have Gleyber Torres, Miguel Andujar and Troy Tulowitzki pegged for jobs and that's not even including Didi Gregorius' (elbow) eventual return. LeMahieu will get to trade one hitter-friendly park for another, but he'll have to change leagues and doesn't figure to play as much as he had in Colorado. The signing would also seem to further diminish the chances of the Yankees signing Manny Machado. Those NY teams sure like to stack their infield with too many good players... edit: f***ing late again.

P2F Old-Timey Member Posted January 11, 2019 Posted January 11, 2019 Finally. Now maybe Martin will get traded. Maybe back to the Dodgers? Indeed.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted January 11, 2019 Posted January 11, 2019 Lol I can see a big Yankee favoured trade coming up involving one of their young IF although in reality - LeMahieu is a backup player. He's a below average hitter who's excellent defensively. The Yanks can't justify playing someone with his bat at 1st base very often (unless it's a late inning defensive replacement).

Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted January 12, 2019 Posted January 12, 2019 1/11 The Astros announced Friday that third baseman Alex Bregman underwent arthroscopic surgery to remove loose bodies from his right elbow earlier today. Bregman is expected to be limited at the start of Spring
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted January 12, 2019 Posted January 12, 2019 So let’s see... former co-head of CAA agency gives CAA player an above market arb salary from his new employer’s coffers, while his old colleagues enjoy an extra $200,000 in commission. How is this not a blatant conflict of interest?

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted January 12, 2019 Posted January 12, 2019 lol... this was brought up when he was initially hired. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Yes but if he did the job without clearly financially favouring his former colleagues, it would be possible to give him the benefit of the doubt. He literally just gave more of the Wilpons money than he had to to his former client, and his pals get 10% commission on that vig. Ballsy.
Slade Old-Timey Member Posted January 13, 2019 Posted January 13, 2019 Is this a MLB vs NFL thing? The A's took a risk, if they lose him to the NFL so be it, not sure why they are looking to bend the rules for him.

The A's took a risk, if they lose him to the NFL so be it, not sure why they are looking to bend the rules for him. Because if they lose him, they lose their top 10 first round pick from 2018 and get no compensation in 2019, unlike if they just couldnt come to an agrement.. Lot to lose for A’s, they need to motivate him to see baseball as the financial positive vs NFL. NFL first 6 years is probably much more lucrative for him.

I understand the A's doing everything they can to keep him but why is MLB sending marketing execs so lure Murray? Why would they even consider letting the A's offer him more money or give him a major league deal. This is the risk the A's made.

Why would they even consider letting the A's offer him more money or give him a major league deal. This is the risk the A's made. Baseball is losing popularity and their lack of financial benefit for minor leaguers is going to become a topic someday, so they need to attract as many athletes as possible. Even if Murray is s***, they would still be taking a player away from the NFL. The optics for that certainly can’t hurt MLB. The A’s want to get it done for more obvious reasons.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted January 14, 2019 Posted January 14, 2019 Derek Holland back to SF on a 1 yr, $7M deal. Blake Parker signs with the Twins. 1 yr, $1.8M (which could go to $3.2M with incentives) Those both seems like solid value.
