DigitalRock Old-Timey Member Posted August 30, 2019 Posted August 30, 2019 It's a garbage sport for garbage people (the fans, the players are fine, whatever...) Look a dumb post.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 31, 2019 Posted August 31, 2019 I would love an NFL franchise here. I do prefer the CFL game play, but the NFL talent more than makes up for the differences. CFL play and fans in TO would still root for the Argos, initially.
Ex Player Verified Member Posted August 31, 2019 Posted August 31, 2019 Look a dumb post How is that dumb?? Do you not understand that different people have different tastes?? I happen to not think much of NFL/CFL either. I'm a huge soccer fan (especially European soccer), but I realize that sport isnt for everyone either
glory Old-Timey Member Posted August 31, 2019 Posted August 31, 2019 I hate the NFL/football, but it's clearly the most popular sport in North America. Would be a huge boost for Toronto if they ever got a franchise.

jaysguy44 Old-Timey Member Posted August 31, 2019 Posted August 31, 2019 I don't understand how people enjoy the CFL over the NFL. It's like saying I enjoy watching AHL over the NHL. I mean obviously there's rule differences, but still. I like the CFL, but the NFL is so much more superior. Probably not the place to talk about this, but whatever.
Ex Player Verified Member Posted August 31, 2019 Posted August 31, 2019 Fisher's exit velocity is holding pretty steady at 93 mph, top 5 in the MLB. The concern is that he can't get the ball off the ground, which we presume the Astros have tried to remedy over the past few years. Looking at his profile, it's very similar to Moncada's in terms of average exit velocity, barrels per PA, barrels per BBE, % of balls over 95 mph, K% and BB%. Moncada's BABIP is .140 points higher though. Fisher even hits grounders 2 mph harder than Moncada. I think Fisher can basically stay the same and just lift the ball a little more and his profile will produce a positive outcome. You can't even say that his exit velocity is high because he nukes balls straight into the ground because his exit velo on FB/LDs is also very high And to think, in the minors they teach you to hit down on the ball

It's faster paced and more offense oriented, which I enjoy. I find NFL games can be a bit boring with so many stoppages and breaks for advertisements. Then there's fun rules like no fair catches and having the backfield in motion. I've never met a football fan that doesn't like those rules better. The CFL also has more history and better rivalries because the teams play each other several times a season. Go to a Riders-Bombers game and you'll get a European soccer atmosphere. I've seen the Vikings in Green Bay and it's not as good as Regina. Of course, there's a talent gap, but having fun at games isn't all about talent. Backup NFL players and good CFL players are about the same anyways. It's not like watching amateurs. I'm not trying to start a debate but that's why I like the CFL. In a nutshell it's a better game played by worse players.

There was a time where the CFL was a pass happy league when the NFL was being dominated by defense and run twice as much as pass teams. The quality of player difference was still evident but the style of play many said was more entertaining in the CFL. The gap in quality has widened with a shallower pool of players and the NFL plays the better offensive and defensive game.

Well, he kind of sucks defensively and he's like the first guy I've seen that can validate the, "He has no baseball feel" scouting report but it really seems like he should be able to hit even a little bit. Do you think it is possible for Fisher to lift the ball a little more?? Same could be said about Vlad. Though Vlad's hard hit rates may be lower than Fisher's now. Vladdy is kind of weird, his maximum velocity is super high (some of the hardest hit balls in mlb this year), but his overall hard hit rate is only 36% last I checked, + Grounder to fly ball rate is 1.5, where the elite hitters seem to be at 1 or under. It seems the route for Vlad to become the elite hitter he should be is to fix the grounder thing, do you think the coach's will make an effort to optimize the hitters fly ball rates?? or is it something hard to change with coaching.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted August 31, 2019 Posted August 31, 2019 So many terrible posts since I triggered the conversation with Beeston's bait and switch on the renos. 1. There is one and only one circumstance that the team will ever get a new stadium, and that's if Rogers is offered an arm and a leg for the land from some condo developer. Then they replace the dome with a stadium around Ontario Place, Downsview Park or somewhere northeast of the zoo. Believe me, inconvenience for fans and a possible attendance hit will be WAY down the list in any business model where the upfront payment for the dome land is massive. 2. Rogers selling the team makes no sense. Unless there's a rich dude who loves sports and wants to throw around his money - and that's a hard find in Canada - a heartless corporation is pretty much the best bet to own the team. The Jays did fine under Labatt's. And the feeling should be mutual with the Jays being great content filler. Plus as a publicly traded company, Rogers has an easy scapegoat to investors for their failing media division due to their s***** ideas like their magazine business by claiming the Jays as a loss leader. 3. Not liking the NFL is pretty wimpy, but that's fine. Everyone is allowed to have their own tastes. But not wanting the NFL to come to Toronto (or CFL to f*** off) so OTHER people can't enjoy it just because YOU don't like the sport is the ultimate in soy boy triggered whininess. No wonder Bob liked that post. I don't like the theatre so I hope they demolish all of King West for more condos. See what a douche that makes me sound like?

I don't buy into the "Backup NFL players and good CFL players are about the same anyways". Brandon Zylstra, Duke Williams, and Alex Singelton all just got cut from their respective teams in the NFL. Those 3 guys literally ripped the CFL apart when they were in the league. You're statement would be more accurate if you stated "Practice roster NFL players are about as good as Elite CFL players"

It wouldn't have been anyone we even heard of, if it had to be 3. If it was someone of value, it would be just that player coming back.
Slade Old-Timey Member Posted September 3, 2019 Posted September 3, 2019 No loss there, the Yankees system sucks. I'll take my chances with an off season move or an extension.

Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted September 3, 2019 Author Posted September 3, 2019 It’ll be interesting to see Zeuch “start” behind the opener today. He’s got as good a chance as any of being the 5th starter next season.

He's got a good GB%, but the game has shifted towards favoring high K% pitchers (with reasonable to low BB%). Kay is a better bet, IMO.

Him and Dakota Hudson have nearly identical peripherals in the minors when it comes to GB%, SwStr%, and K% and both are sinker guys. Hudson, for all his faults, has been able to produce decent enough results despite fairly ugly underlying numbers. He's definitely going to be an enigma around these parts.
