I don't see a way in which Pompey is anything other than DFA'd after the game.

They've been hanging onto him for years waiting to give him a chance. Now that they finally have an opportunity they are just going to DFA him? Why? To give McKinney/Drury/Teoscar (all of whom have options) more ABs?

I think they'll give him a chance and should unless they know something about him that I don't.

Maybe they DFA Davis. It's hard to see many other options though. Font I guess.

The problem is the 40 man, not the 25 man.

Davis would be a very easy DFA to me. Especially with Alford also on the 40 man and needing a "shot" soon. Thornton to the 60 man would be an option too, depending on what's up with his elbow. This late in the year makes that even more realistic IMO as it's going to be hard to shut him down for some period and then ramp him back up in time to get him meaningful action. Could be some other options I'm overlooking as well.

Definitely not going to lose sleep over it if Pompey does get DFA'd but in a meaningless season with a bunch of bums on the roster I don't think it would be an awful idea to at least give him a chance.

Isn't it like 11:37 PM ET and still no news on the status of Pompey?

They could still be evaluating Shafer. The injury didn't look good, and that would solve the problem.

It's on The Score right now.

Dalton Pompey suffered a concussion while trying to catch an M&M in his mouth last night. Sources say he was stress eating while awaiting news on his own fate with the Blue Jays. The yellow M&M missed Pompey's mouth and bounced off the bridge of his nose. The outfielder indicated that he was fine and attempted to walk the injury off around the block of his parents' house, but was found later that evening walking in circles in front of a Pizzaiolo.

Ross Atkins might still DFA the Canadian outfielder, even though the team could place him back in the IR. When asked for a comment, the Blue Jays GM responded briefly, "who f*****g cares anymore?"

I'm sure someone will give him a shot, Probably the Orioles or Giants.

I really don't understand this. If there is even another team willing to give him a shot, why not the Jays. Really, what is there to lose?Send McKinney down and bring up Pompey. We're playing only for a high draft pick at this point anyway. Even if they aren't high on him, they could hope he has a hot couple months and then trade him in the offseason and get at least something for him.

I'm not sure why they would keep him on the 40-man all these years if the end result was just going to be a DFA. Seems a bit of a waste.

Sure during the actual seasons, he was mostly kept on the 60-day DL's so it didn't count for much, but that was a legitimate 40-man spot wasted during the offseason. One that could've been used on someone else. Not to mention, there's some legitimate 40-man fodder that could easily be DFA'd without any severe consequence to make room for him (Derek Law?). And I'd rather give Pompey an extended look than someone with options.

Just seems like terrible roster management from the outside looking in.

I would have given him a shot because all we'd lose is Jonathan Davis and we need a CF.

It'd be really hard for him to succeed though after not playing all year and then getting thrown right into the fire. I also doubt he's that good anyway.

But still, we lose almost nothing to give him 2 months to see if he can show something. Sometimes guys with major injuries do bounce back. Alex Dickerson is the latest example.

It's surprising.

He can't even see straight right now according to the recent articles. I'm thinking he clears waivers.

Yeah I believe he even said he wasn't 100% yet from the concussion. If he was on the big league roster he probably wouldn't be at his best anyway. Probably hoping he'll sneak through waivers.

Pompey is the classic 'needs a change of scenery' player. He's had terrible luck in his time here.

Concussions don't fall under the change of scenery umbrella. Most of those cases are usually performance combined with mental (psychological) issues, Pompey's scenario is much different.

Never forget.

Ah yes, just before some of the worst strike calls in Major League postseason history. Good times.

And if his concussion was the only thing that had gone wrong for him, your point would be valid, haha.

Pompey was MONEY in the 2015 postseason for us. Don’t forget he also played a pivotal role in that 7 inning of game 5 vs Texas. He stole second and made a great slide at home to prevent a double play. His speed allowed Bautista to come to the plate that inning.

Thanks for Reminding me how umps f***ed us right after..

I forgot it was man on 3rd with 0 outs. f***ing insane that we didn’t score that run. I think Pillar walked there too, because I remember Navarro and Revere both coming to bat and I was sure we would score the run. Those 2 guys had the lowest K rates on the team IIRC, and Navarro had been excellent at getting sac flies all year.

Of course they both struck out thanks to those brutal calls from the ump.

I meant "never forget" Pompey stealing 2 bases.

You can forget everything else that happened in that inning.

I am expecting a similar situation with Travis as what happened with Pompey this year. He is hurt forever then finally finishes a rehab assignment before being DFA'd and hopefully passing through waivers

I honestly forgot 2/3 of these guys were on the Jays.
