tbad Verified Member Posted July 19, 2019 Posted July 19, 2019 There are 153 qualified hitters this year. Dwight Smith Jr. is dead last in fWAR at -0.7. He can't hit (79 wRC+) or field (-9 DRS, -6.1 UZR). He is a very, very bad baseball player. Good to know. The dude really fell off a cliff.

Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted July 19, 2019 Posted July 19, 2019 Excellent article about Doc with stories from some favourite former Jays like Casey Janssen, Orlando Hudson, and Aaron Hill. https://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/mlb/unanswered-questions-linger-roy-halladays-cooperstown-celebration/sn-amp/

saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2019 Posted July 20, 2019 Surprised they DFA'd Kingham, he was looking half-way decent... Could've been a good innings eater at the least. who cares....I'm pumped to watch Borucki on Monday.

Interesting, I was sure we whiffed on him like we did with Gomes, maybe the naysayers were right about him...

Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2019 Author Posted July 22, 2019 Pompey either gets called up tomorrow or DFA'd. His rehab time is up. Seems an easy decision to send McKinney down and give Pompey his last chance. Not sure it’ll happen though. TBF he might clear waivers anyway.
BlueRocky Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2019 Posted July 22, 2019 I hope that’s precautionary, would really suck to lose Thornton to IL for the season
BTS Community Moderator Posted July 22, 2019 Posted July 22, 2019 So once Stro is dealt the rotation is Borucki, Sanchez Waguespack, some guy, and some other guy? WOOOOOF
Slade Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2019 Posted July 22, 2019 Thomas Pannone and Sean Reid-Foley. 1st pick overall though.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2019 Posted July 22, 2019 So once Stro is dealt the rotation is Borucki, Sanchez Waguespack, some guy, and some other guy? WOOOOOF I'm going to say it'll be Borucki, Sanchez, Waguespack, Harvey, and Reid-Foley.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2019 Posted July 22, 2019 So once Stro is dealt the rotation is Borucki, Sanchez Waguespack, some guy, and some other guy? WOOOOOF This year doesn't even matter. They could abandon starters and just go with openers the rest of the season for all I care. I'm curious what they're able to cobble together for 2020 though.

But definitely need to create some excitement both among the players and the fans by an improvement next season.

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2019 Posted July 22, 2019 IZeuch and Merryweather should get a look Yup, they'll go with a 6 man rotation after the deadline, I'd imagine.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2019 Posted July 22, 2019 Harvey? At least he'd be at minimum now that he's a FA. It makes sense. Maybe he figures something out and resigns at a good price. If he doesn't, at least he can eat innings until someone else becomes available. He's going to want to sign somewhere where there's an open opportunity, and we have that. He put up a 4.21 xFIP last year, so he has shown the ability after coming back.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted July 23, 2019 Posted July 23, 2019 When is the deadline to call up Pompey? I know it's soon so I assume he'll be up any day now.

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted July 23, 2019 Posted July 23, 2019 Based on the reporting of the severity of Pompey's concussions, it's quite likely his career beyond now will be short.
King Old-Timey Member Posted July 23, 2019 Posted July 23, 2019 I don't see a way in which Pompey is anything other than DFA'd after the game.
