Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted June 9, 2019 Posted June 9, 2019 Jays creeping up on a top notch draft pick As of today we're only 2 games off of Baltimore and KC for the top pick. And even the worst NL team (Miami) has a better record. KC and Baltimore feel like they're impossible to catch.
Slade Old-Timey Member Posted June 9, 2019 Posted June 9, 2019 Without Stroman, Sanchez and Giles we would be worst than Baltimore or at the very least equal to them.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted June 9, 2019 Posted June 9, 2019 Without Stroman, Sanchez and Giles we would be worst than Baltimore or at the very least equal to them. Agreed

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted June 9, 2019 Posted June 9, 2019 Not sure what you see is so special about Sanchez this season, he has for the most part sucked s*** Replace him with another Edwin Jackson type and you'll see how it can be a lot worse.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted June 9, 2019 Posted June 9, 2019 KC and Baltimore feel like they're impossible to catch. We're not very far away. This is the worst Jays team of my life and the worst hitting team in franchise history as of a week or two ago.
Laika Community Moderator Posted June 9, 2019 Posted June 9, 2019 Without Stroman, Sanchez and Giles we would be worst than Baltimore or at the very least equal to them. I don't think they would quite be worse, but it would be close enough that if Baltimore gets a handful of lucky wins Toronto could end up beneath them
Laika Community Moderator Posted June 9, 2019 Posted June 9, 2019 Lmao Hilarious but not really true. They should just give Jordan Romano an extended look at this point or fully commit to an opener strategy in front of Gaviglio or Pannone.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted June 9, 2019 Posted June 9, 2019 Hilarious but not really true. They should just give Jordan Romano an extended look at this point. Montoyo should probably sugar coat things. If they are going to give Jackson another start just say "hes a savvy vet and we are going to give him a another chance to figure it out." Saying we have no one else is good for a laugh at least I guess. But yeah Jackson is horrific and has no future in baseball let alone with this team. Literally anyone, like Romano, would be better.
Slade Old-Timey Member Posted June 9, 2019 Posted June 9, 2019 I think they already converted Romano to a relief role. I see no reason why Patrick Murphy can't get a start he's already on the 40 man. Even SRF, if they are commited to tank nation then just let SRF figure out his issues here and move Murphy up to AAA.
Laika Community Moderator Posted June 9, 2019 Posted June 9, 2019 Bartolo Colon is a free agent Not even kidding. f***ing sign him NOW.
Plat Verified Member Posted June 9, 2019 Posted June 9, 2019 If the Jays are going to be THIS terrible this year, shoot, might as well lose as many games as you can...

Montoyo, had said pre-season that if they had to use an opener, that something would've had to go wrong with the SP, and here we are.
jmomcc Verified Member Posted June 10, 2019 Posted June 10, 2019 Maybe he meant something else or said more to put it in context, but I thought that was kind of a s***** thing to say about Jackson.
Barkerfan23 Verified Member Posted June 10, 2019 Posted June 10, 2019 I hear the yankees are interested in Stroman This is bad news.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2019 Posted June 10, 2019 Maybe he meant something else or said more to put it in context, but I thought that was kind of a s***** thing to say about Jackson. It was ridiculous on several levels and this was one of them. Dude is a 14 year vet or whatever it is.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2019 Posted June 10, 2019 We really really need a pitcher in the upper levels to pan out. Merryweather despite his age and injury actually seems like a half way decent prospect to me. Everything I read about him pre injury seems to suggest he was a bit of a sleeper in 2017 before he got hurt, and the velocity is clearly there (he was mid 90s as a SP before he got hurt IIRC). I'm not expecting much, but he looks more interesting than most of the P prospects in the minors right now.
tbad Verified Member Posted June 10, 2019 Posted June 10, 2019 Jays closing in on being the worst offense in baseball... may get there after today's game

5ToolPhenom Verified Member Posted June 10, 2019 Posted June 10, 2019 And Sogard is the DH. Lol. Not like they could have put Vlad there, or anything. I get that they want to give young players periodic off days due to the difference in the length of the season between the minors and majors, but DH is a thing, you know. Use it for good purposes, and not to get a utility IF in his twilight into the lineup. Siddall was saying that he thinks it was to send a message to him for dogging on that drive off the wall and playing a routine groundout lazily into a hit.

This is the worst Jays team of my life and the worst hitting team in franchise history as of a week or two ago. One thing's for sure, I've never watched a team who strikes out as much as these guys. I wouldn't be surprised if there's worse in the league, that seems to be the trend of how baseball is going, but man, all the whiffing makes for some boring viewing.

It's incredible that Danny Jansen and his 45 wRC+ (lol) isn't even one of the players with negative WAR. In fact he's been roughly our fourth best position player, the guy has been a rock behind the dish. We also have a league worst BABIP and it's not particularly close to second worst. Our line drive rate and fangraphs' hard hit% are both exactly around middle of the pack, although our soft hit% is quite high. It's not just that everyone is underperforming, we're also having historically awful luck which is turning an already terrible season into a gong show.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2019 Posted June 10, 2019 How are the Royals out tanking us? They have guys having way better years. Must be bad luck. If you compare the two teams according to WAR they have way better hitting, nearly 1 WAR's worth better pitching and a lot better fielding. Their RD is 10 runs better than ours as well.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2019 Posted June 10, 2019 Are any of the tanking teams planning on trading their best pitchers like we are? Maybe the Giants trading MadBum? We are right in the thick of the #1 pick race with Stroman and Giles, without them we might be able to get there.
