saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted April 28, 2019 Posted April 28, 2019 Why? The Jays don't need to sign Stro for his vet presence. I actually think that's laughable. We need to sign stroman, because he's a good pitcher and he wants to stay.

We need to sign stroman, because he's a good pitcher and he wants to stay. Stroman is only 27, is a solid to very good pitcher and barring injury he should remain so for at least the next 4 or 5 seasons. If we don't extend Stroman, the chances of us developing a pitcher as good as him when we need one (which could be as soon as next year, but is probably more likely a couple of seasons away) without overspending on a free agent (something Shatkins probably won't do) isn't very high considering how often pitching prospects fail. Having said all that, it take both sides to agree a contract. If Stroman is asking a ridiculous salary and/or contract length, then we should trade him at the deadline for a haul.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted April 28, 2019 Posted April 28, 2019 Yeah because we might not be aware of what a suffocatingly narcissistic ******* he is if he was on another team. Highly doubt a dickhead of his caliber will be interested in a reasonable extension. You can just ignore Twitter dude, you probably should at this point.

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted April 28, 2019 Posted April 28, 2019 Who is going to be in the starting rotation on these teams that compete for the next 7 years we have Vlad? Free agency / trade are options in addition to promoting prospects acquired by draft or trade. Stroman is more valuable to a contending team than he is to the Jays. If you can get a haul for him, you make the deal. Saying not trade Stroman is dumb. Depends on the available return.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted April 28, 2019 Posted April 28, 2019 Who is going to be in the starting rotation on these teams that compete for the next 7 years we have Vlad? Sanchez sux, and Stroman FA soon. Pearson could be ready in 2020 or 2021, the return for the Sanchez and/or Stroman trade/s. Borucki and Zeuch end rotation, and FA
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted April 28, 2019 Posted April 28, 2019 Sanchez sux, and Stroman FA soon. Pearson could be ready in 2020 or 2021, the return for the Sanchez and/or Stroman trade/s. Borucki and Zeuch end rotation, and FA Pearson, Borucki and Zeuch sounds like the start of a pretty gross rotation. I have confidence in exactly one of those guys.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted April 28, 2019 Posted April 28, 2019 sttroman is good f*** off with you're retarded trump rhetoric, we want good ball players. Not to mention the blue jays have literally ONE (1) pitching prospect even worth LOOKING at within the minors. I know it makes you salty as a whiteboy that Stroman supports BLM, but independent of whatt he says off the field, hes the hes the best blue jays prospect pitcher of the last what, 10, 20 years? give em 5-7 years whatever the f*** he wants. Boxcar f*** you and your podcast. This is one of the most retarded posts I've ever seen. Congrats.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted April 28, 2019 Posted April 28, 2019 Yessir Look at these two idiots discussing something they have no idea about.
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted April 28, 2019 Author Posted April 28, 2019 So much anger, Boxy The podcast guys should do a charity fundraiser to pay for his much needed therapy.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted April 28, 2019 Posted April 28, 2019 I'm all for a Stroman extension even though his personality has turned me off quite a bit. Don't care. He's good. With the new compensation rules you get s*** for guys walking in free agency A 5 year extension and you either keep him if you're contending or trade him with 1.5-2 years left if you're not and you get a much better return than a second round draft pick Given the thinness in the rotation I want to know he's here for a few more years
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted April 28, 2019 Posted April 28, 2019 #LetTheKidsPlay Except Stroman. f*** that guy. Conform or gtfo
glory Old-Timey Member Posted April 28, 2019 Posted April 28, 2019 I've been on the extend Stro train since the winter. The market is making re signing your own players more logical now and Stro is actually good + wants to stay. Make it happen Shatkins. You just signed a "play the game the right way" anti bat flip good old boy in Grichuk. Might as well counter balance that with Stro's personality.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted April 28, 2019 Posted April 28, 2019 Yeah this is a good point - if he’s extended we can still trade him if the rebuild takes too long. Would he accept a Kyle Hendricks/Aaron Nola/Luis Severino level extension? They all signed extensions for 4 or 5 years in the range of 40-55M. I don't see how he can expect better than that. He's not better than any of those guys. And if he will there's just no reason not to.

You've got to assume we've already offered that and he wants more, if that's all it would take surely it would have been done by now. There's almost no downside - even if you're set on trading him he'd then be worth more in the summer with the extra control.
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted April 28, 2019 Posted April 28, 2019 Trade Stroman and Sanchez now. Stroman+ for Whitley Or Sanchez for Josh James Both of those are bad trade options imo. It wouldnt take Stroman + to get Whitley at the moment and Sanchez is better than James. Given those options I'd sign both to extensions and try to get some FA pitchers in the offseason or prospects for Smoak/RP combo at the trade deadline or before

My hypothetical 5/70 gives him an AAV of 14M which I wouldn’t want to go much higher on. I agree with those who said if he doesn’t want to sign an extension obviously trade him. But the way the market is right now I’d have to think he would be motivated to get guaranteed money

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted April 28, 2019 Posted April 28, 2019 Stroman clearly spends too much time on Twitter

Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted April 28, 2019 Posted April 28, 2019 So much anger, Boxy Where's the anger? I'm not angry. You and Bob are: a) both idiots have no idea what you're talking about since I was literally on the last podcast You guys can have as many hilariously awful baseball takes as you want, doesn't bother me at all. I was taken aback a bit as to how someone could fit Trump and Black Lives Matter into a reply where I comment on what a huge douche Stroman is - which wasn't a unique opinion in the offseason. Yeah, I'd extend Stroman, but his douche factor is at 11 and I think he will want a lot of money, more than he should want after like a month of being good.

saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted April 28, 2019 Posted April 28, 2019 So it's agreed then. 4 year extension for Stro with an option for a 5th year!

glory Old-Timey Member Posted April 28, 2019 Posted April 28, 2019 Rogers Centre attendance Fri 28k Sat 22k Today 18k This is a bandwagon city, at least when it comes to baseball. They won't care about seeing Vlad after this weekend. The novelty will have worn off. They will be back when the team is in a playoff race, and even then they might wait until after the team makes the playoffs to start selling the place out again. It will be a process.
