RotatorCuff Verified Member Posted August 31, 2018 Posted August 31, 2018 I don't want to see him given for nothing but money savings. Put me on the Qualifying Offer list for next year. Worst case is he takes it and is injured all year again like this year. But if he can stay healthy I believe he will out perform that QO. Also pretty gross to think the guy is making 1 million dollars per week.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted August 31, 2018 Posted August 31, 2018 How about JD for Quentin Holmes (Cle)? He was a pick in the 60’s in 2017 and a massive lottery ticket. Why would you want him? He looks like trash. I'd rather wait for the QO.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted August 31, 2018 Posted August 31, 2018 Also pretty gross to think the guy is making 1 million dollars per week. He doesn’t make $52M per year.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted August 31, 2018 Posted August 31, 2018 I could see a Ryan Helsley type coming back. Looked good in the minors before his injury (his first three AAA starts he had a 4/28 BB/k ratio then the dreaded shoulder fatigue). He needs to get added to the 40 next year and the Cards have quite a few guys to be added. He's easily better than trying to develop a 2nd pick. Maybe a big velo guy like Junior Fernandez who just forgot how to pitch.
RotatorCuff Verified Member Posted August 31, 2018 Posted August 31, 2018 (edited) He doesn’t make $52M per year. I realize that but everyone in this thread is saying he's owed 4 mill for basically 4 weeks of baseball. by my math thats 1 mill per week. Edited August 31, 2018 by RotatorCuff
TheHurl Site Manager Posted August 31, 2018 Posted August 31, 2018 He doesn’t make $52M per year. Baseball season is 27 weeks though. Still not a million a week but close.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted August 31, 2018 Posted August 31, 2018 I realize that but everyone in this thread is saying he's owed 4 mill for basically 4 weeks of baseball. by my math thats 4 mill per week. He is owed 16.97% of his salary. Or $3.9m
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 31, 2018 Posted August 31, 2018 How about Tyler Freeman (Cle)? I can dream right? Edit: He was drafted 71st overall by Cle in 2017. Boy can hit teh baseball.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted August 31, 2018 Posted August 31, 2018 Why would you want him? He looks like trash. I'd rather wait for the QO. I don’t want him, just spitballing realistic ideas. chances are Shatkins doesn’t want to give Jd the QO (hence the rush to trade him), and he’s a 2nd round/comp pick equivalent that the Indians may not find mind trading to win a WS this year. He may in fact suck but we are not getting a top 10 prospect here. See if the high performance can fix him.

Governator Community Moderator Posted August 31, 2018 Posted August 31, 2018 The thought of having to absorb $18 million as a fallback is a significant amount of money for someone who nearly missed an entire season with a calf injury and might be a shell of his former self. Get something of equal value, pay out his remaining salary if you must and move on without the added risk.

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted August 31, 2018 Posted August 31, 2018 Baseball season is 27 weeks though. Still not a million a week but close. He doesn’t get paid in the offseason so it’s not really a fair portrait of his pay, is my point.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted August 31, 2018 Posted August 31, 2018 You know it’s kind of funny, yes that is an insane amount of money, but we should actually feel a bit sorry for Josh Donaldson. He’s lost like $100M in potential earnings this year.

Unfortunately for him he got hurt before he could cash out.
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted August 31, 2018 Posted August 31, 2018 Donaldson pulled from Dunedin line up, not injury related.
Sorrow Verified Member Posted August 31, 2018 Posted August 31, 2018 Tonight at midnight is correct Krylian.
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted August 31, 2018 Posted August 31, 2018 If you look at this from a money perspective. If they don't trade him and offer him the QO, which is my preference, you are on the hook for at least 13 million. There is 4 million left this season and then if does well and you trade him half way through next season, that is another 9 million. If he is horrible or injured, then you are on the hook for 22 million between now and end of next season. Having said all that. letting him go for nothing and wasting money on the Morales's and Martins of the World is BS.
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted August 31, 2018 Posted August 31, 2018 Traded to Cardinals Source?

Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted August 31, 2018 Posted August 31, 2018 Traded to Cardinals Watching MLB.com, refreshing MLBtrade rumors, see nothing, I hope you have an inside source and are not screwing with us..
glory Old-Timey Member Posted August 31, 2018 Posted August 31, 2018 The QO isn’t happening. It might be better than what the Jays end up getting for him, but it’s not happening. Shatkins wants no part of it and there’s probably stuff we don’t know about happening behind the scenes (hence JDs cryptic quote).
