Stoneyen Verified Member Posted July 26, 2018 Posted July 26, 2018 Gonna go on the record saying Drury sucks and this trade sucks. I'll make this post easy to find incase he becomes the next Donaldson. McKinney is nice though.
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2018 Posted July 26, 2018 I predict SirBjay will be very very happy with this trade.
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted July 26, 2018 Posted July 26, 2018 Well let's change things up. Drury is gonna me a monster DH...good trade!!!
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2018 Posted July 26, 2018 Might be more to it, but those look like the principles. What do you think of the deal? You've been kind of quiet about it.
BTS Community Moderator Posted July 26, 2018 Author Posted July 26, 2018 What do you think of the deal? You've been kind of quiet about it. I don't care much for it and would have preferred a package built around the one of the many high-upside arms in the lower minors of their system. Not hard to see McKinney or Drury contributing enough make it a fine deal though.

He's alright I just wanted a different package.

Would have been fun to track a power arm like Medina or Contreras in the low minors, because we don't have many assets like that. Oh well.

Oh well. You're assuming those guys were made available, though. There's a good chance the Yankees put a higher value on those guys than we think.
Laika Community Moderator Posted July 26, 2018 Posted July 26, 2018 Would have preferred Drury + one of the intriguing prospect arms (even Swanson or Stephan or whatever). I don't really see how McKinney contributes to an MLB team, given the fact that he's probably LF only and he can't seem to figure out how to get his power and hit tools to come through simultaneously. Slight upgrade on DSJ? Maybe McKinney's trackman readouts are nuts though. I heard Drury's are.

Todd Verified Member Posted July 26, 2018 Posted July 26, 2018 This trade is good for the Yankees. But the jays got the short end of this trade. Besides this team needs pitching prospects. Not these to morons.
Laika Community Moderator Posted July 26, 2018 Posted July 26, 2018 Terminator said this in the other thread but I think he's right - Drury will actually have four years of control after this one. He'll certainly be under 3.000 years of service time after 2018. If Toronto keeps him down for a bit then maybe he'll even dodge Super 2 status? Not that that matters.

jerb Verified Member Posted July 26, 2018 Posted July 26, 2018 Lindsey Adler Verified account @lindseyadler Brandon Drury said he just got off the phone with Ross Atkins. He said Atkins said he'll be in the Blue Jays lineup tomorrow night in Chicago.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2018 Posted July 26, 2018 I'm warming up to Drury. I don't think he's a bad player, just not the type of player I wanted the Jays to get. The Yankees have high upside P's in their lower minors and I probably would have done Happ for one of Medina/Contreras/etc straight up instead of this, but the other point is valid in that we don't know if the Yankees were willing to part with any of them for Happ. If Drury's underlying numbers turn into results soon then maybe he can be flipped for something better.
GreekFatAss Verified Member Posted July 26, 2018 Posted July 26, 2018 I would have rather kept Happ than give him to the Yankees for nothing.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2018 Posted July 26, 2018 I saw a couple of people mention Drury's batted ball profile. I can't remember the term used to track it but can anyone expand on that a little bit?
BTS Community Moderator Posted July 26, 2018 Author Posted July 26, 2018 Yeah, I'm starting tow arm to Drury too. Between him having 4 years of control and not 3, and people also talking about a good trackman profile, I feel better about him than I did a couple hours ago.

The trackman profile is what I was talking about. What is that and why is Drury impressing with it?
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2018 Posted July 26, 2018 The trackman profile is what I was talking about. What is that and why is Drury impressing with it? It's basically what goes into batted ball predictors, i.e. quality of contact. I believe it's measurements in exit velocity, launch angles and I'm sure other relevant data which teams use to project how players - in our case, a hitter - will perform or how their swing or gameplan should be altered to maximize their performance in terms of the quality of contact. https://baseball.trackman.com/WhatWeTrack
TheHurl Site Manager Posted July 26, 2018 Posted July 26, 2018 Eight OF on the 40 man now, 9 if Drury is an OF. Got to figure Granderson is moved or just plays out the season and takes the best spot for him next year. Pompey is the only one on his last option.
