You should check Twitter. People are almost gleeful about the opportunity to tear down a successful person because of stupid things he said when he was 17. A bunch of ‘he’s done’ and ‘there’s no coming back from this’ tweets. It’s socially acceptable bullying.

His current account now has the blue tick that shows it's authentic. If he switched his account once he was drafted, then got a tick on the new account once he became well known enough to be eligible for one, it gives more weight to the excuse of "I was a dumb kid who didn't know any better".

 

If he'd taken the extra step of deleting the old account, it'd also mean the only way someone would find the old tweets would be if they had followed him and knew him at the time, and had the motivation to save the tweets.

Hader is going to face some major backlash. Constant booing and protests, and this will go on for at least the rest of the year, and probably follow him all of his career to a lesser degree.

 

It will also diminish his value considerably. A lot of teams (owned by corporations such as Rogers), won't be able to take him - and his market will be a third of the teams in the league. Attanasio should be able to weather the storm, but the Brewers organization will be inundated with letters and calls from people threatening to not go to Brewers games while he is there.

 

Additionally, you may see some pressure for other corporations to stop sponsoring the Brewers, until they get rid of Hader. He's offended three loud, vocal identity groups, so there will be no shortage of Hader haters.

 

Will be interesting to see what MLB and the Brewers do, given that he was underage at the time.

Still, this isn't going to be about what's fair. This is going to be about virtue signalling. It wasn't fair to ban Donald Sterling for life, based on the contents of a private phone call, but that's what they did.

What I don't get is that he went through 3 organizations, was looked at by several colleges and committed to Maryland. Teams have guys looking at this stuff, how did no one catch it? Even if it is an old account.

 

When I went back to school there was one of our classes that asked us to look at our social media and get rid of things that might come back to haunt us.

 

He's done a good job now at owning up to it, and he may have to be thick-skinned for a while but this will be nothing soon.

He's merely saying that apologizing isn't enough. Don't think this is the worst he's been. It's the guys defending it that are taking it to the extreme trying to put words in people's mouths. Saying things like "what should we do...hang him for something he did when he was 17" "suspending him 50 games for something he did 10 years ago". Law is just saying that it's not enough to apologize. Actions speak louder than words.
