leaffie Verified Member Posted June 8, 2018 Posted June 8, 2018 While I agree with what Shapiro is doing, they are doing it half assed imo. He knew when he took this job, that this was the future with the farm system we had. He should have made it plain to management that this is what was needed and a total tear down would have been less painful in the long run. Or he shouldn't have taken the job. We are now into year three, and while there is a wave coming, everyone knows, that not all prospects turn out, and realistically it is at least two more years away. The attendance has plummeted and will only get worse. Would it not have been better to trade off everyone that was not going to be in the future last year, especially now when we are seeing the injuries pile up for our older players. Now we are left with fewer pieces that anyone will want. Besides the Morales signing that was a huge mistake, Shapiro is on track to rebuild a team but will the fans still be there when it is done. I still watch all the games, but the terrible defensive play, the pitching that is lackluster and a bullpen that is worn out, this season will only get worse. I find the games boring, and a lot of players play like they are bored too. I have watched through all the building years from the first game, I watched through Gord Ash and JP and I probably will continue, but this team is a terrible team, and it gets harder and harder to watch an entire game. But as a Blue jays fan that loves this team, there is always next year.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2018 Posted June 8, 2018 The attendance issue is overblown. They've raised prices like 50% in the last 3 years. Infield seats for the Boston games were like $145 each plus fees on TM. So while the attendance is way down I would expect their revenue to be pretty similar. The true test will be to see how the team acquires enough pitching in the next few years because outside Pearson there really isn't much on the farm besides back of the rotation types. Stroman and Sanchez are FA after the 2020 season so the window with all the position player talent doesn't really line up with them. Even next year the team is going to need at least 3 SP and that's if Stroman and Sanchez return.

They may be back of the rotation guys (as could Sanchez), but they do have some young depth. A lot of money comes off the books in 2020, so we may look to add through FA.

I like Shatkins but I hope ownership will be willing to endure through the losing in order to see their vision though.

I am making a top 100 prospect list, and am curious what they think. (Don't worry I have many sources for my top 100 list, including my own Deep Neural Network stats analysis, and some live scouting, so Pat and Buck's opinion will only count a little, I still like to hear it though). Preview of my list... 1. Anthony Alford - despite bad stats so far this year, his athleticism and tradition of on base skills, leads to a projection of 5.8 WAR per year (think .290 .390 .430 with +++++ baserunning and defense). Based on 5.8 WAR per year projection he is the top prospect. 2. Vlad Guerrero JR - awesome stats so far, admittedly 100* better than Alford, however we sadly project negative baserunning and defense, based on too much icecream and Poutine. Think .335 .410 .570, with negative baserunning and defense leading to 5.7 WAR per year, almost as good as Alford but not quite. The rest of the top 100 Jays prospects list will appear soon.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2018 Posted June 8, 2018 If you have Alford #1 and Vladdy #2 you can stop right there. No need to display the rest of your list.

Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2018 Posted June 8, 2018 Not much gets past you eh? ha. Clearly I'm exhausted today. I don't think I even read the post. Just saw Alford 1 and Vladdy 2 and commented without thinking.

Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted June 9, 2018 Posted June 9, 2018 Wow dude Already responded that I wasn't paying attention when I posted.
bowld Verified Member Posted June 9, 2018 Posted June 9, 2018 I have already stopped watching most games. I look at the score a few times per game and root for them but am choosing to use my time differently. More family and friend time
