This team is in desparate need of some young energy. Look at the Braves with Albies, Acuna Jr.

Calling him up now would be foolish because he will forget how to play third base forever unless he's playing it every single day.

While Donaldson is still here this is a bad idea, I don't want a 19 year old kid to come up and DH.

This team is also terrible so burning a year of control isn't a good thing.

Just be patient and pray Donaldson gets hot and we can move him for a handful of solid young prospects and then maybe call Vlad up after it wont cost us a year of control which I believe is mid June sometime.

Wrong you don't lose a year of control, he'd have to stay down till the second week of April '19 to save the extra year of control.

Remember the time when Trout, Beltre, A-Rod, Andruw Jones, both Upton's, etc, etc, came up at age 19 and set the world on fire? Good times. Every 19 year old hits like Bryce Harper did. Let's use him as the norm. Call Vlad up now. Start his service clock in a lost season and park him at DH because why the f*** not?

If the Jays had a chance to win the division then I can see the argument, but my god people want to call him up when the team will be lucky to finish .500? Who bloody cares? Fans didn't come to see Roy Halladay, Carlos Delgado, Roger Clemens, etc, and they sure as hell won't watch Vlad at 19/20 on a s***** team.

This is insanity. Soto got called up because the Nats are a good team. If they were where the Jays are now they would have been laughed out of the building for calling him up.

No the Nats called Soto up because he was their next best option, Eaton/Kendrick and Goodwin are all injured. Actually... they're decimated with injuries.

Why do we care if we 'start the clock' early, I mean s*** hes getting called up next year for sure at the very least, the difference between potentially losing him 1 year early due to free agency is negligible as far as I'm concerned.

Also did people forget the financial backing the Jays organization has, they are currently 8th in payroll and could easily jump to top 5 if push came to shove, and signing Vlad doesn't seem to be out of the question, ffs he signed with them once already.

Call him up, cut Morales, rotate vlad and JD at 1st/3rd/DH and lets watch some FUN baseball not this dog s*** they've been running out there everyday for the past couple weeks.

You will only be able to delay his arbitration eligibility by a year, not his free agency.

Lengthy discussion this morning on Sirius Xm on this very subject. Bowden was one of hosts and didnt catch other. Both felt he should be up. Thought he could be difference in making playoffs. Said thought they were waiting until after June 1st because that could affect the super two to the benefit of the jays. Also said should let Morales go, put Vlad in left, DH JD for some of time and let Vlad play 3rd. On alternate days.

Think the Jays will bring him straight from AA or else why hasnt he been moved to AAA.. also said it will show very poorly on Jays if they keep him down just because of his age.

Thanks to everyone for the clarity on the service time rules, it's such a mess to understand that crap lol.

I just want them to do whatever helps us keep Vladdy as long as possible even though i'd love to watch him rake on a daily basis.

I know he'd help us but I can't see this team competing for a playoff spot, we don't have the pieces to compete with the Yanks/BoSox.

Umm, no. Control of player wins out over stupid fan emotion every time.

It should. But fan emotion and dollars won out over blowing it up 2 years ago as per Shapiro. Nothing would surprise me.

You don't appreciate smart roster management that impacts the success of your favourite team?

Yes, the next best option on a team that expects to contend for a World Series. I think it was an aggressive call up, but at least it was justifiable from that sense if they felt he was going to improve the team. For them, every win matters.

For the Jays, it's clearly a different scenario. Also, as I said, look at the history of GREAT players who didn't do jack ish at age 19 in the bigs. Even if we call Vlad up it doesn't mean he's going to do well, and in that case, what's the point? If he comes in and hits like Harper, it won't help the team make the playoffs since they appear to have way too many other issues to overcome, and if he comes in and struggles like many other great players did at that age, then you wasted months of his service clock on a season where he could have worked on his D and other things in the minors.

I just don't get the logic here. I'd expect the mouth breathers on Twitter to demand Vladdy be called up but not anyone who is looking at this team objectively. Is it unfair to Vlad to be this good and be stuck in AA? Absolutely. But change the CBA then (which I have said for years they should do....the game treats its players like crap).

But Glory's point remains. The Nats have a very good team (when healthy) and with Harper hitting the FA market this offseason, it certainly appears they are desperate to make a deep playoff run. They are calling up Soto b/c of all their injuries, but they are also doing it b/c they think he can help them win now.

Adding Vlad to this Jays team likely changes nothing.

I don't understand why everyone is writing off the 2018 team. They're currently projected to win 81 games. The Angels are projected to take the second wild card with 86 wins.

Vlad could make a very real difference this year.

Yeah we aren't out of it. A lot of guys are underperforming.

Vlad is not going to make a 5 win difference.

No but he could make a 2-3 win difference. And the energy he would create by being called up would probably help although you can't really quantify that.

Soto is also the 9th OF to play for the Braves this season.

Gotta know when to fold 'em. If the Jays retain JD, Happ, and a few others and lose them for nothing, it's a big loss.

And the energy created when he leads the team in errors by a mile? The kid needs to play 3rd every day.

No he doesn't. Playing 3rd base every day and developing the skills to play 3rd base aren't mutually exclusive.

So how does he learn the skills to play 3rd while not playing 3rd base?

I wonder why he's not in Buffalo. Atkins said AAA was an important step for him. Do they feel his defense can develop better at AA?

I think they feel the pitching is more "talented" currently in our AA league and want to keep him, Bo, Biggio, and Reid-Foley togther. I could see all 4 coming up after the trade deadline on our current path
