Is there any type of reason they are keeping gift on this team? I'm being serious, we have many better options in the minors, just didn't know if there was some specific reason why he's here

Gift is straight up the worst player I have seen on the Jays. Can’t think of a worse hitter. As much as I love Shatkins, no idea why they kept him over Epinosa.

I mean at this point Espinosa can't be worse. But that's wishful thinking because he'll probably strike out just as much.

Gurriel, Espinosa at least can put the bat on the ball, even try out urena and I'm sure there's others, gift may play good defense but he can't hit the broad side of a barn

Yeah I'd probably make the switch but Espinosa is pretty horrid himself.

Im not totally familiar with the minor league guys but it seemed there were alot better options than gift during spring training

Offensively speaking at least he offers some upside beyond the strike outs, but yeah it's still not an option to be excited about.

My only complaint is that I wish Gibby would have staggered the lineup with Martin and Travis switching games off instead of taking them at the same time.

Maybe we can call up Espinosa and he can give us something and perhaps Tulo makes a mid season appearance to further bolster the infield. I think Gurriel could be an option midseason as well.

 

Once Donaldson is back there won't be much reason to play Gift a whole lot too.

If Donaldson wasn't on the DL, Gift would be a cheerleader, even during the doubleheader. He's playing due to injuries, not because the team wants him out there over better options (and really, the options in the minors are very, very meh... It'd probably be Urena if it wasn't him, and I don't think he'd be any better at this point...)

I’d rather have Barney on a minor league deal than Gift. I won’t say Goins because I never want to see him hit for the Jays again, but Goins is prime Jeter compared to Gift. Seriously, Gift is bad. Like, really bad. His minor league numbers are horrendous and he has no positive qualities at the plate. Espinosa might suck but he might fluke into a HR every now and then. If Gift makes contact it’s an accomplishment.

 

It’s just annoying because Gift is going to start every 3rd day until JD gets back. Brutal watching this guy at the plate.
