BTS Community Moderator Posted February 9, 2018 Posted February 9, 2018 So... that’s something. Petricka might actually be good.

Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted February 9, 2018 Posted February 9, 2018 Axford is very smart at least
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted February 9, 2018 Posted February 9, 2018 Axford is a good dude. He hasn't lost his velocity. Hopefully he can find something. Good minor league signings.
Nafro Verified Member Posted February 9, 2018 Posted February 9, 2018 Bullpen depth, on a low risk, high reward contract. You really can never complain about that! We have been able to upgrade our middle outfield depth, exponentially. I like this off-season for us, so far.

This doesn't move the needle, yet there's nothing wrong with the signings. We still look like a 3rd or 4th place team at this point of the off season Need to add a quality SP and another higher quality late inning BP arm to have a chance of changing that, all while hoping Boston does nothing of substance.

If it’s the year they catch lightning in a bottle great, if not then no worries.
BTS Community Moderator Posted February 9, 2018 Author Posted February 9, 2018 Low risk but I wouldn't say either of these guys have very high reward potential I could see Petricka putting up a couple 1+ win seasons. He sits 94 and has, at different times in his career, showed the ability to get GB rates in the 60s, and the ability to strike people out at something close to an average rate. He's one of my favourite MiLB contract relievers this offseason.
Laika Community Moderator Posted February 9, 2018 Posted February 9, 2018 From a fantasy baseball perspective, Petricka has always been on my watch list in deep leagues. His potential was evident in his first few years, it seemed like with some minor changes he could easily become a high end Holds guy. He hasn't lost any velocity. I'm sure he's probably just as good as Tepera or Carlos Ramirez. Man the Jays pen is sad...

Outside of it, he's never posted high K rates...he's been a low K, high BB, GB% machine.
BTS Community Moderator Posted February 12, 2018 Author Posted February 12, 2018 Add Craig Breslow to the list. Albuquerque Petricka Axford Breslow Not bad.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted February 12, 2018 Posted February 12, 2018 If they bring home Hutch on a similar deal I'd be happy. Dude has had nearly a K an inning primarily as a starter in his MLB career. Certainly worth a look while the Jays are in the dumpster looking for hidden gems on non-guaranteed contracts for the bullpen.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted February 12, 2018 Posted February 12, 2018 Shapiro's view on relief pitching is awesome. A relief ace (Osuna) is necessary, but for the middle relief crop, just find some guys with great K rates/velocity and see who sticks for a year.

What's left on the relief market is pretty gross, especially now Oh, Norris, and Romo have signed MLB deals. Outside of a cheap 2-year deal for Rosenthal, or 1-year flier on Uehara or Watson, there's not much out there that I'd want to give more than a MiLB deal.
