Shart Verified Member Posted January 24, 2018 Posted January 24, 2018 I saw on Twitter the Jays are interested in Tillman. He's be a good bounce-back candidate.

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted January 24, 2018 Posted January 24, 2018 List the factors based on why he is a good bounce back candidate averaged 2.1 WAR per year between 2013 and 2016. If his shoulder is healthy again and he's dirt cheap on a 1 year deal (or better yet a minor league deal) than sure.
AledmysDiaz Verified Member Posted January 24, 2018 Posted January 24, 2018 His fastball is down to 91. He was a below average pitcher at 93. Now he is down to 91. This is a minor league spring training invite at best. I would reckon he should take that with the Orioles where he has a far better chance of making the rotation
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted January 24, 2018 Posted January 24, 2018 Nooooooooo Also link? People on Twitter say things all the time, is it from a verified source?
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted January 24, 2018 Posted January 24, 2018 Meh, minor league deal with an invite to spring training, why the f*** not? But no way I want him on a guaranteed MLB contract.

If we can get him for bullpen money, why not. Throw $3M at him and see if he can give you a bunch of starts of 4.5 ERA from the 5th rotation spot. If he's not good, cut him or move him to the bullpen.

Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted January 24, 2018 Posted January 24, 2018 Wade Davis sucked all kinds of balls as a starter before being converted to a reliever. If you can get these Tillman and Hutchison types on non-guaranteed contracts, you do it.
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted January 24, 2018 Posted January 24, 2018 As mentioned above, MILB deal or no deal.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted January 24, 2018 Posted January 24, 2018 He was a perfectly serviceable #4 SP from 2011-2016 but the wheels fell off last year. He'll be entering his age 30 season so maybe he can bounce back with better health. Assuming the FO knows something I don't about his health or ability to bounce back, I'd offer him as much as a major league deal on the league minimum which seems to be further than most here would go. Stretch him out in ST and then put him in the bullpen. A non-guaranteed deal would be better though.

His FB averaged 91.4 MPH between 2013 and 2016. He had a shoulder injury last year, which did drop his velocity to 90.7 (exact same as his average FB in 2014). If he's healthy again, give the guy a shot. That said, he very well could be the Jays 2018 version of Mat Latos.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted January 24, 2018 Posted January 24, 2018 List the factors based on why he is a good bounce back candidate Used to be an Oriole, if he's decent we get to laugh at their fans? Best reason I can think of at least.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted January 24, 2018 Posted January 24, 2018 If Trollosi is the only one mentioning this then I doubt it has any validity. If it does, then I'd be fine with a minor league deal, or a very minor big league deal (think Gavin Floyd 2016). Otherwise, pass.

Muck Bartinez Verified Member Posted January 24, 2018 Posted January 24, 2018 In 2015-16, Tillman had FIP's of 4.45 and 4.23. Wouldn't be the worst idea to see if he can regain some velo and get back to 4.50 or under, but a MLB deal would be pretty gross. By the way, his FIP's against Toronto for those same seasons were 8.62 (lol) and 4.94. 2015 was amazing when that offense was just destroying everything.

No idea why they don't match. Point remains, he was hurt last year.

They absolutely mashed and any time it was a lefty on the mound they would destroy him. Good times.
The Iceman Verified Member Posted January 25, 2018 Posted January 25, 2018 I would guess it would take minimum $6 million plus incentives to sign him. He won't be that cheap of a signing.

BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted January 25, 2018 Posted January 25, 2018 At that price I would pass. Agreed !!!
