It's not just about service time. We aren't going to carry 3 catchers. Martin is still the teams primary catcher and hes signed through next year. No need to rush Jansen onto the roster before September.

Never said it.

Calling up Jansen now would hardly be rushing him. He's a 23 year old catcher in his second season at AAA with more walks than strikeouts and a 163 wRC+. The defense seems to have plateaued at average this season and he's probably hit his peak in that regard.

Sorry I didn't mean rushing as in I don't think hes ready for the big leagues. I absolutely think he is. But this team isn't competing and our catcher spot is mostly a non issue. I would rather you make sure he gets past the super 2 threshold before making the decision. And if he is coming up. I want him playing 4 or 5 times a week. I don't think it would be good asset management just to DFA Maile. And we aren't trading Martin with his salary. In the off-season we might be able to get someone to bite on his final year if we eat some of the contract.

Are we all pretending Maile is good now?

Its not about thinking hes good. Its about depth. And Maile can catch and hes actually hitting Baseballs hard this year. I would rather not go back into the dumpster fire of no catcher depth and see the likes of Miguel Montero and Raffy Lopez's of the world. Reese McGuire isn't hitting at all in AAA and isn't an option at this point.

So why on Earth is an over the hill aging catcher getting more playing time in multiple positions including the OF, when we have an abundance of OFs...we should never....I repeat never see Maile and Martin in the game together

Do you clowns watch any ball through the league....

you should never mess with something that is working. He was a good bullpen piece, should have kept him as such. the ups down, changes rotation now back, messed him up good

This is old school nonsense. If this were true, Mark Buehrle would have spent his career as a reliever.

Anyone hear the ******** on PTS today? They solidified my concern that Sanchez has a massive leash as a starter (from a media perspective). They all agreed that Stro and Sanchez are written in pen as our #1 and #2 starters moving forward and how surprised they are with Sanchez's struggles because he had a good spring training (like that f***ing matters). Those dipshits also think Pillar is the new Trout and scoff at the notion that he will regress to his career norms. Blair thinks Pillar should stay in the 2 hole even when JD returns.

That s*** is f***ing unbearable. I was almost happy to see Pillar K 4 times today in the 2 hole.

Blair probably wants Pillar in his 2 hole.

There's no reason to want a career below average bat getting more PAs

Hoping the Jays trade Pillar at the deadline. I don't expect them to, but it would open up some PT for Pompey/Smith before they have to make a decision on them in the winter, and then there's Alford to take over full time whenever he stops sucking.

With the sinking ship - what if anything can we trade by the deadline and what if anything decent can we get back? Happ? But if we wait - you just know his arm will explode July 20th and be completely worthless - sooner the better Shatkins. What are they waiting for? It's the end of May and three regulars are hitting under .200. 1 good starting pitcher. Umm - time to tank it for the higher draft pick boys - if you're not going to make the playoffs - you should want to finish dead last.

lmao seriously? The Draft hasn't even happened yet. GMs arent exactly lining up to trade for rentals in May

This.

If something falls into their lap like the Seattle/Tampa deal ... they would do it. And chances are Colome was probably talked about at the winter meetings by the GMs and just tweaked whatever they were talking about a bit to get it done. I highly doubt it was Seattle calling all the teams trying to figure out who might be available to help as a setup man in the pen as if they were desperately searching high and low for an arm since the season started.

Seattle and the Angels will both be desperate to make the playoffs. Atlanta is in the race and AA treats prospects like cheap whores so there’s always a chance for a deal there (don’t they need a 3B?). The trade deadline will hopefully be fun this year for the Jays. We have some intriguing short term options that can help teams.

I still have faith Donaldson will get hot when it matters most and will be a hot commodity at the deadline. Hopefully Happ stays healthy be was also bring in a nice return and lots of teams will want him. My biggest concerns is the bullpen not completely imploding and we can sell of the likes of Clippard, Axford, and Loup. Unless we get a legit prospect for Oh I don't think we should trade him because of his dirt cheap option.

That - along with strong numbers, would probably make Oh the most value reliever we have.

Nobody is going to give us s*** for Clippard, Axford or Loup.

I disagree, if Loup continues to pitch as he has he could get a nice return. Liriano was way worse last season and still netted us Teoscar

At worst IFA money... :)
