Morales destroys the roster flexibility so much that it is infuriating. They obviously did not want to release him in the winter but now that they have a surplus of options that are by far better than him, there's really no point in holding on to him. It's sunk cost. They aren't getting a return on it. Just cut him loose and free up the DH spot.

I have thought the same, many times this winter. I really wanted Morales traded, to free up his position for other players, mostly Travis.

You are right, that with the depth of quality bats added this winter, there really is no need for Morales.

Yet it is always good to have a big bat on the bench for pinch hitting assignments.

Everyone wants Morales traded, doesn't mean Shatkins can actually pull it off. Not many teams out there that want to take on a DH at his salary when he's clearly no longer an effective hitter, and will cost your team more wins than he contributes to.

What kind of roster move will be done once Morales and Donaldson comes back?

My prediction is that they will move somebody in the bullpen to the minor when Morales comes back, and it is most likely to be Tim Mayza..

Since they only have three batters on their bench, someone in the bullpen has to go, and Mayza may not have a lot of opportunities to pitch...

If they want to keep two lefties in the pen, then I think they may kick one of the righties (Maybe Axford or Oh.. I think it might be Axford because Oh can throw strikes at least.)

Once Donaldson comes back, I think it will be either Ngoepe or Grichuk who will be gone.. I don't know if Ngoepe has an option to be sent to the minors, but I heard Grichuk doesn't. If Ngoepe's gone, I think Diaz, Solarte, and Travis will share playing time at 2nd and SS. If Grichuk is gone.. Teoscar will be a new starting right fielder and Grandy and Pearce will platoon at LF.. Teoscar and Grandy can also play CF occasionally when Pillar needs a day off.

What is your opinion??

Morales hurts the lineup.

Grishit in RF kills the roster.

Teoscar must stay. Alford, Pompey, better depth options than Grishit. We have a plethora of 4th OF. Thus we sent Carrera packing. Send RG packing too. Oh well, bad trade. It happens.

So Teoscar RF, Pillar CF, Pearce/Grandy LF. No room for RG.

I don't think Pompey is a legit depth guy anymore, I could be wrong.

I do believe Grichuk does not have an option to be sent to the minors.. He has to be DFAd first... I really think he need some at bat at minors though

Sure he is. A healthy Pompey is at least as good as Pillar at the plate. In the field, might be a bit of a loss. On the basepaths, Pompey is better.

Best way to accomplish that would be for him to get "injured" and be placed on the DL - should things reach a point where action is required.

Grichuk is not getting DFA'd and he doesn't have options. They didn't target him and acquire him only to give up on him in less than 70 at-bats.

He is at risk however of losing playing with Morales back because Teo taking his at-bats and the Pearce/Granderson platoon is En Fuego.

For the time being hes going to be used on defense I don't see him getting many starts vs RHP.

Hes been excellent at that in his career. Already got hurt twice in Spring

One easy move is to option Mayza back down. Need to clear another spot though. I'd probably option Gift too and just play Diaz every day. If he misses a game Solarte can fill in. If he misses a few he gets DL'd.

That should be fine for the couple of weeks where everyone is healthy. Someone will get hurt though and the problem will get solved.

We have 8 in the pen, there's no question.

Ya that will be the easiest move for the first move when Morales comes back.. However, many teams carry at least two left handed relievers though, and Loup isn't pitching well even as a Left vs Left.. So they could keep Mayza and option or DFA a right hander. However, it is really hard to choose who to get rid of right now since all of our right handed relievers are pitching very well, (All of them have sub 3 ERA) Except Axford can't throw strikes, Clippard is allowing too many home-runs, and Oh hasn't pitched 1-2-3 inning this season.

And I think it will be either optioning Ngoepe or DFA Grichuk once Donaldson comes back.. Unless Teoscar's bat goes cold.

Grichuk will not be DFA'd, period.

Yeah - 2 years of control after this season, and paid less than $3m this year. He’d be claimed straight away.

If he continues to suck he’ll get less playing time until he turns it around, but DFA wouldn’t make much sense at this point.
