BTS Community Moderator Posted March 27, 2018 Posted March 27, 2018 ?? John Gibbons has managed about 9 seasons, Gaston did 10+. John Gibbons is 720-700, Gaston is 894-837. By my calculation Gibbons will take over top spot before All Star Break 2019. (Yes. I realize that means he'll have to manage at a aproximately .700 winning percentage to achieve that goal... but as others point out he is a legend, he can do it. The Jays can do it. That fat kid will be up before long (sooner than you think) and help Gibbons to this goal). I was looking at this: http://toronto.bluejays.mlb.com/tor/history/managers.jsp Looks like they stopped updating after 2015.

How could they diss Gibby like that?? On the off chance that they don't play .700 ball until All Star Break 2019... John still has an excellent chance at beating Gaston late in 2019. edit... OK they'd have to average 87 the next two years to get gibby there, but that's the kind of thing Gibby is good at. Quietly get the Jays in a couple of wild card chases and maybe outside shot at division tile, using old country wisdom (combined with new fanged stats from front office)

saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted March 27, 2018 Posted March 27, 2018 Why is tulo going to see an ankle specialist tomorrow? Isn't that a step that should have been taken 3 or 4 weeks ago?
bzapple Verified Member Posted March 27, 2018 Posted March 27, 2018 So I haven't heard any word on who's throwing out the first pitch on Thursday. Maybe Halladay's son?
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted March 27, 2018 Posted March 27, 2018 So I haven't heard any word on who's throwing out the first pitch on Thursday. Maybe Halladay's son? They're doing the tribute opening day, aren't they? Boy, that would be really tough for his son to see that, then have to come out and throw out the first pitch in front of 50k people.

It's a scheduled appointment to see how the recovery's going, what steps to do moving forward. Of course he seen the same doctors prior, c'mon man.

"We obviously have a lot of information from the course of the off-season and after putting all the information together, there’s another specialist we’d like to see and he’d like to see.” That quote doesn't make it sound like he's seen this doctor before or if he has before it doesn't sound like he's seen him this off season.

Meh, more opinions the better, right. Funny thing though, is they've been saying it was his heal all spring, now it's a spur in his surgically repaired ankle, he'll end up getting it cleaned out via surgery, like Greg Bird... see you in mid-June Tulo.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted March 28, 2018 Posted March 28, 2018 Ngoepe has made the team apparently. South African Goins (with a worse bat). Was hoping Epinosa would get that spot.

Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 28, 2018 Posted March 28, 2018 Gift Ngoepe made the team as the 25th man, per Gibby!

Gift is making the team because they clearly have no confidence in Diaz's defence as SS. You figure Gift will start at SS when Stroman and Sanchez pitch due to their GB%. Where as you go with Diaz for the other 3. Also in close and late games as a defensive sub. If Tulo isn't getting back till the All star break (if at all) Gift is slated for 300 plate appearances this season. Sucks because this team cant afford to carry replacement level bats.

I think he was questioning the decision of keeping Gift over Espinosa, not why we need an additional SS backup. The latter is a pretty good defender with potentially slightly better bat, the Jays must think Ngoepe is a better defender right now and/or Espinosa's bat is cooked at being bad at best (which is entirely possible, the guy cannot make contact at all).

Maine Jays Verified Member Posted March 28, 2018 Posted March 28, 2018 Man, I can't believe there was ever a time that I disliked Gibby. The guy is a f***ing legend. I think is a critically underrated manager and he's only getting better. I think these seasons with Shatkins at the helm have revealed that Gibby takes a large amount of direction from the FO, which is good...when you have a good FO. Now that we do, Gibby's decision making, bullpen usage and lineup construction are all improving and the team seems to really like him. Laid back and hilarious but when push comes to shove, he doesn't take any s***. Speaking of s***, where is Shea Hillenbrand these days?

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted March 28, 2018 Posted March 28, 2018 Its not like Gift or Danny Espinsoa were going to play that much. Probably the smart move just to roll with Gift so it doesn't force you to make a 40-man move that you don't want to make.
