Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted February 22, 2018 Posted February 22, 2018 Jansen needs to play a lot though. He needs the ABs and he needs the reps behind the dish too. I think starting him at AAA for a while is fine. Maile playing a dozen games isn't going to kill us. Then when the first injury hits or midseason maybe he could come up and play a fair amount. Then move McGuire up to AAA. Perhaps this is what the FO is thinking.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted February 22, 2018 Posted February 22, 2018 I like that idea. Call Jansen up after the super 2 cut off. That should give him a couple of months of plate appearances in the minors, and then he can replace Maile mid-season, while McGuire moves up to AAA.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted February 22, 2018 Posted February 22, 2018 (edited) plus getting Jansen time under Martin's mentorship can only be a good thing. Perfect situation really with an older vet who is very secure in his starting role, but not long term (so he isn't helping the guy who will 'take' his job) It really is Ideally the "backup" catcher this year and next is not an aging vet type of temporary fill in or replacement level scrub, but rather a guy being groomed to take over eventually long term. It makes sense logistically and financially. He can get playing time and give Martin rest and learn a ton on the way Edited February 23, 2018 by G-Snarls
Franklin Verified Member Posted February 23, 2018 Posted February 23, 2018 Steve Phillips says that all signs point to Donaldson being on a different team next season. So, I guess we can expect an extension announcement any day now.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted February 26, 2018 Posted February 26, 2018 So after the Oh signing is there anything else the Jays will do? I assume more starting pitching and relief pitching fodder. Could see another major league reliever perhaps. Would love to see Carlos Ruiz brought in on a major league minimum deal but I don't think it will happen.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted February 26, 2018 Posted February 26, 2018 I could see them adding another reliever, maybe one with a starting background who can be more of a long man. They seem to really want to stack up Buffalo, so I could see them starting all their optionable relievers there and calling them up when a need arises. Other than that, I think they are done.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted February 27, 2018 Posted February 27, 2018 My favourite transaction of the off-season. Bye Zeke!
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted February 27, 2018 Posted February 27, 2018 My favourite transaction of the off-season. Bye Zeke! I don't mean to tell you how to enjoy the game or whatever, but objectively the best move this offseason was Goins being non-tendered and then him signing with the Royals.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted February 27, 2018 Posted February 27, 2018 I thought it might be Dermody but this makes a lot of sense. Could spur on a trade and if not we save the majority of Zeke's salary. Zeke doesn't have options and we have a lot of OFers who are going to be playing in Buffalo with options.

They are both pretty sweet to be honest. I am just glad they are both gone. We don't have to watch Zeke play Outfield anymore and don't have to watch Goins swing a bat.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted February 27, 2018 Posted February 27, 2018 This deal just got even better!

I never realised how good his CH was or how awful his Cutter was for that matter.
Todd Verified Member Posted February 27, 2018 Posted February 27, 2018 Jays should find a way to bring in one more starter and reliever and possible a backup catcher. Marcus Stroman is all ready being shut down. Still a lot of good starting free agents out they. And maybe moving Stroman or Sanchez into the pen because of heath issues.
BlueRocky Old-Timey Member Posted February 27, 2018 Posted February 27, 2018 Stroman injured already? Wrap it up. Call St Louis
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted February 27, 2018 Posted February 27, 2018 And maybe moving Stroman or Sanchez into the pen because of heath issues. This is weak, even for you Todd.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted February 28, 2018 Posted February 28, 2018 Interesting... so Siddall's taking Zaun's job?
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted February 28, 2018 Posted February 28, 2018 Good. Might be nice to hear intelligent insight rather than mumbly ranting about stuff that hasn't been relevant in 15 years
devo Verified Member Posted February 28, 2018 Posted February 28, 2018 If only they could get rid of Barker too...

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted February 28, 2018 Posted February 28, 2018 I don't mind Siddall.... I love Cliff Floyd.... but f*** Kevin Barker.
Muck Bartinez Verified Member Posted March 1, 2018 Posted March 1, 2018 If only they could get rid of Barker too... Where's #MeToo when you really need it?
The Iceman Verified Member Posted March 1, 2018 Posted March 1, 2018 Barker is very entertaining but i will miss Zaun. Siddall too dry/nice for my tastes.

Pinkfloid Verified Member Posted March 1, 2018 Posted March 1, 2018 Hey I dislike Barker as much as the next guy but I've softened my dislike of Wilner over the years so perhaps Barker can improve as well.

CrackerJack Verified Member Posted March 1, 2018 Posted March 1, 2018 I'd rather hear Siddal on the radio or in the broadcast booth (instead of Tabler.) I rarely ever see Blue Jays Central since i'm usually either at the game or watching on MLBTV.
