HealthDream007 Verified Member Posted September 26, 2018 Posted September 26, 2018 David Wright activated for a final game Saturday A wonderful gesture for a guy who was a heck of player before injuries robbed him in his early 30's. Was on pace to be a HOF to boot.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted September 26, 2018 Posted September 26, 2018 Brewers at Cards is a must watch game imo, big implications for both teams.

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted September 26, 2018 Posted September 26, 2018 Interesting query on Dongenhagen today. Pitchers recovering from TJS should hit in the lower levels while in recovery. Particularly useful for the NL.
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2018 Author Posted September 27, 2018 The Orioles set their all-time franchise record for losses in a season today in absolutely epic fashion.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2018 Posted September 27, 2018 Chris Sale throwing 89mph tonight. If the Yankees advance to the ALDS, I think they have a real shot of beating Boston, especially if Sale is not 100%. That lineup is designed to kill lefties.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2018 Posted September 27, 2018 Brutal slip by Adolid Garcia rounding third trying to score the tying run for the Cards. He was probably safe if he stays on his feet, feel terrible for him.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2018 Posted September 27, 2018 The idiot on ESPN just tried to discredit WAR by citing the difference between Lorenzo Cain and Yelich's RBIs. He could have said that defensive stats are bad in small samples and/or unreliable when measuring value, or that Yelich is just that much better of a hitter but no, f***ing runs batted in is why it's a bogus argument that Cain might be just as valuable as Yelich.
Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2018 Posted September 27, 2018 Speaking of WAR, Betts just hit 10 WAR on the year after his night tonight.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2018 Posted September 27, 2018 Anyone who thinks Betts is an unworthy MVP is out of their damn minds. Now that he's ahead of Trout in WAR hopefully it will put an end to that nonsense.
Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2018 Posted September 27, 2018 Brewers are going to the post season.

Now that he's ahead of Trout in WAR hopefully it will put an end to that nonsense. It's still kind of amazing that Trout only has one MVP to his name, though. I'm just relieved he's going to lose to someone who deserves it.

At least the other two were trying to say "WAR is a pretty good judge of who is best". I couldn't figure out what the discussion was about as I looked it up yesterday and Yelich was more than a win up on Cain. Turns out that on rWAR (or bWAR if you prefer) has Cain at 7.0 and Yelich at 6.6. I don't know if ESPN has a deal with BRef but it just makes a legit argument for people to discredit WAR as a measure when there is s*** like this. I'm sorry you can never convince me that Lorenzo Cain's defense is 3 wins greater than Yelich. Freeland is a full 3.8 wins better on rWAR too. In the end his argument was right..you don't need a WAR calculation to know that Yelich has been better this year. He just had to bring Cain's super low RBI's up.

WAR isn’t infallible as it’s still a statistic that can never account for all the minor variables when comparing two players. However, the obvious comeback to his argument is that RBIs are also a statistic and are subject to much bigger variables. It’s pretty simple really.

Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2018 Posted September 27, 2018 Kittredge definitely just threw a retaliation pitch behind Austin Romine's head, in response to CC hitting Bauers on the knuckles
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2018 Posted September 27, 2018 CC throws at Sucre and gets himself tossed. He was six outs away from earning a 500k innings bonus lol
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2018 Posted September 27, 2018 Lol CC hit him, walked off the mound staring down the dugout as he's getting tossed, pointed at Kittredge and said "that's for you bitch".
glory Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2018 Posted September 27, 2018 Man, I was really hoping we'd sign CC last winter when it was rumored. Not that it would have made a difference or anything, but always been a fan of his pitching.

bones10 Old-Timey Member Posted September 28, 2018 Posted September 28, 2018 I'm curious what Oakland's game plan will be in the wild card, none of their starters are worth a sniff, but they do have a plethora of relievers, its gotta be Fiers for no more than 3 innings to start you'd think.

That lineup is designed to kill lefties. this is a top 20 regular season effort all-time by Boston, but the playoffs are basically a lucky spin of the wheel in this format
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted September 28, 2018 Posted September 28, 2018 100% worth it to him at this stage Oh yeah he'll be just fine, have a feeling he'll get the money anyway. It wasn't like it was a spur of the moment decision, he had plenty of time to consider his options while the Yankees were pounding on Kittredge in the top of the inning (they recorded 5 exit velocities of 100+ in that same inning after he threw behind Romine). I'm sure he's at peace with his choice.
