TheHurl Site Manager Posted December 16, 2018 Posted December 16, 2018 Expand 2 teams, 8 divisions of 4. Go to the NFL playoff format (top 2 teams get byes) with a best of 5 first round I tried to create new divisions but I hate every possibility.

The problem with a round of byes is that having players in baseball sit for more than a week between games could be problematic. That's less of an issue in a game like football.

Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted December 16, 2018 Posted December 16, 2018 How is MLB (i,e the owners) going to make any money from a Montreal team? Not from some huge TV contract.. Montreal would probably be in the same boat of Teams that need revenue sharing, especially with the Canadian $. They are only talking about building a 32K seat stadium.. The only stadium close, is Fenway with like 35K because it is ancient. What is the benefit to the league as a whole, the owners, the TV contract, expanding the MLB market etc by adding Montreal? The Blue Jays already have that market if it is a baseball fan... The aggregate of TV contracts would not be any more..IMO If you are reducing the Blue Jays contract and just replacing it with some English/French mix.. zero sum gain.. ... If I were an owner I would vote no.

Plus, I'm not sure all the asylum seekers and refugees are into ball. We'd also have very little chance of capturing market share outside of QC, and the ownership group looks to be projecting things on the cheap including a 75m payroll. It's doomed to fail right from the start, but they still want to bring a team so worse case they can always relocate in 15 years and make a nice profit when it fails again here.
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted December 17, 2018 Posted December 17, 2018 Wilson Ramos signing with the Mets eliminates one team with money looking for a veteran catcher. I.e, I was hoping they wouldnt get Reamulto and agree to take Martin..
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted December 17, 2018 Posted December 17, 2018 Who is going to pay what it takes to get Realmuto? The Astros?
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted December 17, 2018 Posted December 17, 2018 Who is going to pay what it takes to get Realmuto? The Astros? That was probably their last shot to get a steal of a return for him. He could still fetch a nice package at the deadline, but unless a team gets really freaking desperate it'll be hard to pay an elite price for 1.5 years.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 17, 2018 Posted December 17, 2018 Realmuto has told the Marlins he won't re sign there They're foolish not to trade him for the best offer on the table no matter who the team is
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 17, 2018 Posted December 17, 2018 Realmuto has told the Marlins he won't re sign there They're foolish not to trade him for the best offer on the table no matter who the team is Yup, that 3 way trade fell through, thir ask was obviously far too high. Kaploop!
Ray Verified Member Posted December 17, 2018 Posted December 17, 2018 Realmuto has told the Marlins he won't re sign there They're foolish not to trade him for the best offer on the table no matter who the team is Apparently they were asking for Albies from the Braves and Bellinger from the Dodgers.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 17, 2018 Posted December 17, 2018 Apparently they were asking for Albies from the Braves and Bellinger from the Dodgers. Mmm I can certainly understand the reluctance from those two teams They just don't match up well. 2 years of increasingly expensive arbitration Realmuto won't appeal to a rebuilding team, and contenders won't want to trade MLB proven pieces for him unless it's from an excess a certain position. 4 years of Yellich was probably easier to trade

They should have traded him last year. This is a mess.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 17, 2018 Posted December 17, 2018 Why does Miami want MLB proven pieces in return? They should have traded him last year. This is a mess. Exactly. They stand no chance of being competitive in that division for at LEAST 3-4 years.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 17, 2018 Posted December 17, 2018 Also, I guess this means D'Arnaud's days as a starting catcher are done Is the bat salvageable enough that he could snag some playing time at 1B? I looked him up... Career wRC+ of 96 doesnt really play well at that position so probably not.
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted December 17, 2018 Posted December 17, 2018 Been listening to MLB radio all day... They made some good points that has me convinced that Dallas K will go to or be a really good fit with the Braves...
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted December 17, 2018 Posted December 17, 2018 Looks like Bradley to the Astros at 2/32
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted December 18, 2018 Posted December 18, 2018 Mets gave Raji Davis an invite to ST... MLBTR says he is known for being speedy and his D/Glove... Funny, I remember the speed but apart from one spectacular catch, I thought his D was suspect or below par...
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted December 18, 2018 Posted December 18, 2018 Looks like Bradley to the Astros at 2/32 Wow that's a great deal. Now all the Astros need to do is add Nelson Cruz to that lineup and watch out!

TheHurl Site Manager Posted December 18, 2018 Posted December 18, 2018 Luxury tax calculations must be done because the Yankees announced that they are going to pay CC his $500k from when he was ejected.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted December 18, 2018 Posted December 18, 2018 Looks like Bradley to the Astros at 2/32 Brantley for those of you still trying to figure out who Bradley is.

Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted December 18, 2018 Posted December 18, 2018 Brantley for those of you still trying to figure out who Bradley is. Damn it. Everyone's allowed one of those a year for free. Wait, wait, I mean bad autocorrect...
