Mariners and Padres apparently discussing some sort of trade involving Wil Myers for Jean Segura and Mike Leake.

Mariner’s gonna mariner is starting to become a thing it would appear.

Must be at least one top prospect going back to Seattle.

I guess the Mariners have fallen back on their quota of piss-poor corner position players.

What happens when two dumn front offices collide?

The rest of baseball rejoices.

Cron DFA'd last night coming off a 122 wRC+ and 2.1 fWAR season. I guess this tells us that Smoak doesn't really have any trade value.

I don't really understand why the 1B market has collapsed the way it has. Teams like the Rockies and Angels are trying to win and seem content running sub-replacement level garbage out there at 1B.

I meant to mention this to you in our League thread, I was quite surprised, he should be picked up soon.

The Rockies can't start Ian Desmond 130 times at 1B again, and there isn't much of anything available at 1B on the market. They should make a claim. But they probably won't.

Yeah, the Rox immediately came to mind when I saw that last night. It's 4th and 40 Rockies, it's time to punt.

I think it has to do with teams finally realizing that money is best spent elsewhere than a typical power hitting first baseman because the market is flush with them. Many teams seem to be going more towards players who are versatile and it's hard to justify spending $6 million on a player who really can only play first.

On the topic of 1st base not sure if it was mentioned but the Yanks were looking at Harper to play 1B. Judge, Stanton and Harper in a lineup would be incredible to watch lol

This is the second consecutive year in which the Rays have made a highly questionable non-tender. Part of this is a league wide trend, but part of it is just the Rays strategy in my opinion.

Machado "clarifies" the hustle comments.

Translation:. Agent says 'you f***ed your big contact aspirations by being honest. Go out there and say some s*** that makes you look like you were just misunderstood'.

Pipe dream: big market teams are scared away by Machado's hustle comments and Toronto swoops in and signs him.

But he's such a ****.

Exactly. It's one thing to not run out ever ground ball hit during the regular season. It's another to not run out an extra base hit in the World Series. Then he doubles down by showing pitifully low emotional intelligence and pure arrogance by telling people he doesn't like to hustle instead of 'maning' up for his obvious blunder. When you add that to cleating players multiple times and just generally being a massive **** and I can see why teams would question whether they want to give him $350M and build a team around him.

I truly hope the baseball gods ensure he remains a lifelong loser.

short-term:

Vlad - 3B

Manny - SS

Bo - 2B/super util

2020 and beyond

Manny - 3B

Bo - SS

Vlad - 1B

I would be 'fine' with Manny on the team. Easier to accept a **** who wins you games than a **** that beats you.

Wouldn't hold me breath tho

Josh Donaldson and Jose Bautista were both cocky *******s. I actually don't give a s*** if Manny Machado hustles EVER if he can still provide 6 WAR per season. Manny had multiple knee problems. Maybe not hustling keeps him healthier, for all we know. I would rather have 6 WAR Manny 95% of a season than 7 WAR Manny for 40% of a season.

I'd be very comfortable signing Manny for 10 years, $330M. I think almost every team should want him for that price.

Same. This is a legit MVP-level talent entering his age-26 season, and there's nothing of consequence on the books long-term. If you can land a legit 26-year old franchise player for nothing but cash, you do it.

Would we rather have Harper or Machado? Harper fills a more immediate need, but obviously both are long shots for the Jays to sign

Yes, the Jason Heyward timeline is very comforting
