deGrom has better stats on pretty much everything except strikeouts and innings pitched, 1.4 higher WAR too.

With both teams currently missing the playoffs, W/L shouldn’t be a major factor even for old school voters.

If deGrom gets injured and/or has a bad run and if Scherzer continues to deal and the Nats make a charge for the wildcard (+68 run differential is twice the wildcard leading Brewers) then it could go either way. But right now, it’s deGrom in the lead.

deGrom has more WAR by a fair bit, fewer walks, lower ERA by a lot, lower FIP, lower xFIP.

Sherzer has more strikeouts (260 vs 230) and a way better W-L record (16-6 vs 8-8) since the Nationals have scored over 5 runs per start when he pitches (vs Mets who score 3.6 when deGrom does)

I refuse to believe we still live in a world where W-L record is going to be a major factor in deciding the Cy Young Award winner. King Felix broke that mold back when he was good and he hasn't been good for a long time now.

Well when Felix won though the guys with the high win totals were clearly not as good. But, there were actually a few other guys who were arguably better than Felix the year, but he won because of his low ERA.

Winning based on ERA is not as bad as win totals, but its still not great. And DeGrom might not even get to 10 wins. Dinosaurs aren't extinct enough yet to let that slide

My mistake. I thought I saw that Scherzer's WAR was higher.

Not sure if anyone read this today, but at Fangraphs, Sheryl Ring wrote her 2nd good article today about the MLB PA hiring a bigtime sports legal gunslinger to head their negotiation team.

https://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/the-mlbpa-has-a-new-chief-negotiator/

I really hope they avoid a work stoppage when the CBA is up but obviously this guy doesn't get hired unless they're expecting a really big fight. This dude beat the friggin NFL and NBA over free agency issues. Dude is legit

Yes, also a candidate

A's more likely to make post season though

And most importantly, you own Treinen in fantasy or you wouldn't be talking about him.

Take your vagina privilege and gtfo. Oh man, that made me literally gag.

Oh yeah, no drawbacks at all to having a vagina. Really can't think of even one.

stever20: Do you think the Dodgers will use Jansen this weekend in Colorado?

Meg Rowley: They might have to, whether they want to or not. Not a time to be goofing around with wins.

How is a heart condition triggered by the altitude in Denver goofing around with wins? Obviously his health and safety need to come first

Are you questioning Meg Rowley because she's a woman? Wow. Disgusting.

Blake Treinen, AL CY candidate

36 saves, 0.91 ERA, 11.81 K/9, 3.2 WAR in 69.1 IP

Edwin Diaz has been better than Treinen

Verlander has his buffer out ready to shine his Cy Award, folks.

Holy f***...

“It was one of my testicles turned sideways and was strangled,” he said through a team translator. “The doctor had to perform emergency surgery to save it. I never thought about it, but it was serious. The doctors they did a very good job and everything is good. They saved the testicle. I’m really glad and thankful like I said before for all the people who helped me and who were there for me. I feel very grateful right now.”

Hahaha... the only one that wants him to go to Colorado is Jansen himself, it's not worth the risk...

Danny Duffy shut down for the year, KC likely roll with a six man rotation staffed with the following household names: Junis, Keller, Fillmyer, Lopez, Skoglund and Sparkman.

Then again, name value has probably been Duffy's strong suit.

Brandon Phillips playing his first game of the year at 2B for the Bosox.

And he just went deep with 2 gone in the 9th. What a game

Touki Toussiant running in the bottom of the 9th. Why in September would you need a pitcher to run.

They still had Preston Tucker on the bench too.
