Two years til FA instead of 1 like Donaldson but he's a lot younger.

If you take the remaining years into account, it's a 7 year $163M deal for Altuve.

I wonder if this changes anything for JD. Would he sign for 5 years $140M on top of this year?

I think I'd be comfortable with 5/125, but once you get above that combined with his age it starts getting iffy.

5/125,

So you are comfortable paying a 36/37 year old 25m a year, let me know how that works out lol.

You could easily get as much war out of JD from signing 2-3 other players for about 5-8m/year less total per year, get younger players, fill more holes and end up with a better team. Plus if you trade him you could get a younger b+ prospect back too. So decent prospect + 2-3 other players vs a declining JD. Tough choice.

Guys like JD are still getting paid. JDM just got $110M over 5 years, no way JD signs for under 5/$110M

Josh Donaldson is 32 and is likely in a plateau phase at best and seems likely to decline over the next few years

Jose Altuve is 27 and could actually get better

No way Donaldson can hope to get thia many years so yes hopefully he could be convinced to sign a 4-5 year deal

I'd be ok with 5/$125M to lock JD up right now.

Sign me up for dem prospects. I don't recall, what did we get for 2 years of Halladay? We might as good a haul as we did with Halladay seeing as how Donaldson will only have a couple months left on his contract, but I'm sure we'll do really well.

IIRC we got Travis D'Arnaud, Kyle Drabek and Michael Taylor for Halladay from the Phillies.

It was one year of Halladay, and the Jays (for some reason that blows my mind since he was arguably the best pitcher in the game at the time) also chipped in cash in the deal. Return was Drabek, Taylor, and d'Arnaud. Taylor was flipped for Wallace almost immediately. Wallace was then flipped for Gose in mid-2010. Then four years later, Gose was flipped for Travis.

I say let JD test free agency. If the market for him is soft due to all the competition next winter, then the Jays can always circle back to him. They have Solarte, Diaz, and possibly Vlad to replace him in 2019, but if he ends up coming back, then they have the depth/versatility to move pieces around. JD's age is going to be an issue for whatever contract he gets. Five years is a huge risk.

What are these new projection systems on Fangraphs, THE BAT and ATC, and why should ever look at them and not Steamer?

Haha I know eh, I couldn't believe how many projections popped up when I was on fangraphs yesterday.

ATC looks pretty cool. Averages together various projection systems but weights them differently. I would definitely like to know the what systems are being given what weight, especially since it allows the Fan's projections on there. My guess is that is given very little weight.

There was a study some time ago that fan predictions provided better estimates of games played, etc. My guess is it probably weighs those much more heavily, and everything else is pretty much ignored.

I hope zips gets like 1% weight.

It's probably why they don't make the weighting public. If they give Zips a low number it makes Zips less likely to want to share their info with the site.

This is something I didn't know:

Canada's major wireless carriers are beginning to plan and build out their own 5G networks, too. Rogers has outfitted the entire Rogers Centre with dozens of 5G antennas in the hope of bringing a new level of event experience to their customers. Bell and Telus are working on similar plans to test and build their own networks .

While cool, what would really be nice is having phone plans in Canada that aren't complete gouging. The comparison between US and Canada cell/data plans is not even close.

Yeah, no kidding.

You can get 5 lines with unlimited data in the States for under 100 dollars.

In Canada you are lucky if you can find 1 line with 6 gigs of data for around 100 dollars.

It would be a dream if an American company can role in and end the Monopoly which is the Bell and Rogers media umpire. I get discounts and I am still spending around 90 bucks. I need to turn my data off for periods of time just to stay under.
