Can someone remind me why we signed an out-of-shape 33 year old, with terrible defensive metrics, who put up 0.8 WAR in over 600 AB to a 3-year contract for $33 million last year? Was it because 1B/Util bats are super hard to obtain?

You might find this place therapeutic to vent, Adam.

So the JD Martinez deal is actually a 2 year deal with 3 consecutive player options. Still a good deal for Boston, but at least he will leave or get paid more after 2 years if he hits well.

Kevin Gausman exited Monday's game against the Tigers in the second inning after being involved in a collision while backing up home plate.

Gausman backed up home plate on an RBI single from Leonys Martin and apparently collided with Jeimer Candelario, who was in the on-deck circle. Orioles trainer Brian Ebel was checking Gausman's face for a while, with Eduardo A. Encina of the Baltimore Sun noting that he might have been given a concussion test. The Orioles should pass along an update soon, but hopefully it was just a precautionary exit. Gausman threw a scoreless first inning, but ended up being charged with five runs on six hits and one walk.

Candelario ended up leaving with a knee injury because of this odd collision.

Kevin Gausman suffered a cut near his left eye in a collision with Tigers third baseman Jeimer Candelario on Monday.

Gausman collided with Candelario while backing up second base in the second inning. He believes Candelario's helmet brim hit him in the face, which caused the cut. Gausman told reporters that his back is a little sore, but it sounds like things could have been a lot worse

God damnit, Spring Training injuries are the worst.

Welp...

Felix Hernandez left Monday's Cactus League start against the Cubs after being hit in the right arm by a comebacker off the bat of Victor Caratini.

Uh oh. The injury appeared to be in the area of his hand or wrist, but more should be known soon. Either way, King Felix was in considerable pain upon leaving the game. Mariners fans will cross their fingers.

I would love to see that.

We are all fans of Bautista, despite his nuances, and would rather see him go out with a bang or at least a buzz, rather then a flatline. He did so much for Blue Jays baseball when all seemed to be lost...

The Indians have a minor-league deal in place with veteran slugger Mike Napoli, according to MLB.com’s Jordan Bastian (Twitter link). If he passes a physical, Napoli will join the organization’s major-league camp.

I can see Bautista channelling his Prime self when facing us. I would actually expect that to happen. I kind of hope its not the end for him either.

Same. I'd honestly like to see Bautista get a 1 year DH deal for 4-5M somewhere and have a decent season. And Tampa seems like a good fit.

Ruptured Achilles for Jake Burger. He’ll miss the entire season.

f*** :(

I think that would be reasonable on both sides. If we had an opening for DH/1B I would sign him in a heart beat.

Bautista and Tampa were linked last off season as well and he lives nearby. If he signs anywhere that would seem to be the most likely fit.

FaaaaawwwK!

Not good start to the year. It's not even March yet and we've lost Burger and Honeywell for the season.

The Texas Rangers are pushing pitcher Matt Bush to add a changeup into his repertoire as he continues to stretch out into a starter. Bush had previously relied on a blazing 95-100 mph fastball with an 80 mph curve mixed in to keep hitters honest. Successful two pitch starters are rare, and the push to get Bush more comfortable using his changeup in games is a sign that they know this. For what it's worth, Evan Grant reports that the Rangers and manager Jeff Banister are impressed with the quality of his offering, it's just a matter of building up confidence. Out of 28 total pitches in a Sunday spring training outing, two were changes, which marks a significant increase in the usage of the pitch. This news shows that the Rangers appear to be serious about the Matt Bush in the rotation experiment. His progress is worth monitoring, as his fastball is truly a plus-plus pitch and the converted infielder could be a very intriguing player come draft time. He's currently being picked deep in the reserve rounds, 484th overall according to NFBC, so he wouldn't cost much to acquire. Texas has a dearth of talent in the rotation, and someone of Bush's talent could make noise if given the chance.

4-5M for negative value seems like a lot.

Matt Bush should not be allowed to play in the major leagues.

Ohtani went 0-3 today with a K.

Bust.

Too early. But really, Ohtani should decide whether he should pitch or hit.. because 2 way players don't exactly work well in MLB.
