No, that's lakeport. If you've resigned yourself to drinking s***** beer, why wouldn't you just drink the cheapest one? Budweiser still pretends that it's premium.

I don't drink Bud. Well at a Jays game, sure.

At first I thought this was a pretty big waste of beer but if you look really hard you can see spanky licking every last drop off the floor.

They do this every home team HR hit (and walk off hits). There is some odd traditions in College...Ole Miss OF'ers also throw a ball into the crowd at the end of each innings warmups. The students write messages and throw the ball back at the start of the next inning.

This is quite the apparent quotes from Boras:

The oft-vehement Boras apparently sees Darvish as an “analytics phenom”, but describes analytics as a “management excuse to keep salaries down.” He also says that Arrieta beats Darvish in something he calls “prestige” value.

lmao

I love Boras

If he is your agent he sure fights for you, that is for sure.

Why doesn't every player in MLB hire Boras? Do you think he has discretion and turns players away?

I’ve wondered this. It seems like you never see the Ryan Goins of the world represented by Boras.

Why would he? There is no future in representing bums.

Logan Morrison signs with the Twins.

First baseman Logan Morrison has reached a deal with the Twins, per a tweet from Jon Morosi of MLB.com. In a subsequent tweet, Morosi notes that the guarantee is for $6.5 million for one year, though escalators and a vesting option could take the total value of the contract all the way to $16.5 million.

Can someone remind me why we signed an out-of-shape 33 year old, with terrible defensive metrics, who put up 0.8 WAR in over 600 AB to a 3-year contract for $33 million last year? Was it because 1B/Util bats are super hard to obtain?

The front office wanted to replace EE quickly after he turned down a new contact, and their internal metrics projected Morales to be successful.

IMO the 3rd year should have been an option year, but his agent is Boras so he probably demanded 3 guaranteed years to sign.

The collapse of the market for 1B/DH types, and Morales poor season last year make his deal look much worse in hindsight.

Jesus. The Smoak deal doesn't seem as good as it once did.

Jeff Zimmerman on Ohtani:

•I was not impressed. He looks to be a good pitcher, just not at ace level.

•The fastball was straight. The curve is slow and loopy. He had little feel for breaking balls. His split-change did look good though. It’s early but he did not impress.

•He’s a little slow throwing to home from the stretch with an average time of 1.5 seconds (below league average). He has a little early pause. I’d not be surprised if he has problems controlling the running.

We're paying Smoak 6M next year with no escalators.

Wat?

With guys like L.Morrison signing for $6.5M and Y.Alonso signing for $7.5M AAV - Smoak's $6M salary seems to be the going rate (maybe $1-2M low).

Coming off an offseason where guys like EE just signed for $20M, Morales for $11M, Beltran for $16M, Jose for $18M, M.Holliday fo $13M, Trumbo for $12.5M, etc.....I think at the All-Star break, we all thought Smoak's $6M 2018 salary would look like a MASSIVE steal...but the market's change and it no longer does IMO.

Yeah, Morrison was also a 30 year old 1b who had a huge season out of no where, much like Alonso. If those two got peanuts in free agency, then I doubt Smoak has much trade value. Still on a good contract, though.

Smoak's deal is a massive steal lol. He was just a 3.4 win player earning $4.1M, he could be a pumpkin this year and the amount of value gained by his deal would still have been huge. Smoak is also earning $4.1M again this year, the $6M is for next season which at most will be an $8M option if Smoak is good enough to warrant 1100 PA.

Bryan Shaw is out-earning Smoak by double. Ian Desmond by over five times.

Write him off after one inning in Spring Training, what a joke.
