Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted November 13, 2017 Posted November 13, 2017 What do you guys think about Adam Frazier as a target? Lefty bat who can play all over the diamond.
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted November 13, 2017 Posted November 13, 2017 What do you guys think about Adam Frazier as a target? Lefty bat who can play all over the diamond. Meh, he'd surely only be replacing Goins as the 25th man. Much more exciting - offer the Pirates salary relief, Pompey, and one or 2 of the players we may have to expose to rule 5, for McCutchen. Only has 1 year on his contract, and could be traded at the deadline to a contender if it looks like we'll miss the playoffs. A big name to placate the fans, but one that is past his best, doesn't impact the future beyond 2018, and shouldn't cost anything significant. IMO Pompey has missed his chance with the Jays but still has a chance of a MLB career with a change of scenery. I assume the Pirates picked up Cutch's option in order to trade him for youth, so I guess they'll be shopping him at the Winter meetings. Chances are they'd get a better offer, but hey you never know.

Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2017 Posted November 14, 2017 Giants are trying to blow their brains out to acquire a CF. Wonder how badly they'd overpay for Pillar considering he is a "grinder" and plays the "right way". Pillar for Panik would be interesting.
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2017 Posted November 14, 2017 Pillar for Panik would be interesting. I'd love to get Arroyo in that scenario.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2017 Posted November 14, 2017 Is Teoscar a passable defensive CF? Trading Pillar and putting Hernandez at CF is an interesting idea if they can get a 2B/SS or SP for him (KP).
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2017 Posted November 14, 2017 I'd love to get Arroyo in that scenario. So would I, but I think Panik is more realistic. Same level of control, same approximate value. Panik is a little safer and better fit for us offensively, and Pillar would help them more in that big field. Move Travis to LF and try to keep him healthier if he isn't always having to land on his knee, etc.

Trading Pillar and putting Hernandez at CF is an interesting idea if they can get a 2B/SS or SP for him (KP). He is an average corner outfielder. Can't see him being a CF with the Jays unless they need him in a pinch (injury or such)
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2017 Posted November 14, 2017 Wonder if that means the team would trade Pillar or keep both he and Cain.
WryNGinger Verified Member Posted November 15, 2017 Posted November 15, 2017 Wonder if that means the team would trade Pillar or keep both he and Cain. Would Pillar or Cain be ok with not being the every day center fielder? Not sure about Cain but I don't get the sense that Pillar would take a move to a corner well...
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2017 Posted November 15, 2017 For a long enough contract it might not matter to Cain if has to move to RF for a year. The team will wring the last ounces of defensive value out of Pillar and then trade him, if they aren't already planning to, and then boom, there's the replacement. Who knows about Cain's personal CF pride, but he gets paid either way.

We need to upgrade and I would love to see him moved.

We need to upgrade and I would love to see him moved. I think he's earned the right to have an ego when it comes to defense. I would rather move Cain than Pillar. That outfield would give us some flexibility too. All of a sudden, Pearce in left isn't as bad because Pillar can shade LF more. Idk though. I'm excited to see what Atkins can do this winter. I honestly feel like we have a good shot at landing Otani.
Ray Verified Member Posted November 15, 2017 Posted November 15, 2017 Rays interested in Jose Bautista.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2017 Posted November 15, 2017 Rays interested in Jose Bautista. I hope they sign him. Would avoid the awkwardness of the the Jays continuing to ignore him if he's still sitting there unsigned on January 18.
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2017 Posted November 15, 2017 Rays interested in Jose Bautista. They were rumored to have made him an offer last off season as well. Close to where he lives so it makes sense.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2017 Posted November 15, 2017 Rays interested in Jose Bautista. That would be pretty cool actually. Decent team and since he's in the division we'd get to see him play in TO a lot without having to watch him don a Yankee, Red Sox or Orioles jersey.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 15, 2017 Posted November 15, 2017 Rays interested in Jose Bautista. He'd be a perfectly reasonable gamble for them as a DH on a 1 year deal for 5-6M

KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2017 Posted November 15, 2017 He'd be a perfectly reasonable gamble for them as a DH on a 1 year deal for 5-6M Yeah if you have a DH spot to work with, it's a good gamble. If you mostly keep him off the field, maybe he holds up better physically and gives a team a dead cat bounce.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2017 Posted November 15, 2017 I wonder what kind of deal he would get...1 year 6 or 7 mil? I can't see him accepting much less than that but after the season he had and the market he faced last year, he has to know that he can't fetch much more than that either.
BTS Community Moderator Posted November 15, 2017 Author Posted November 15, 2017 Easy pass on Cain for the money he's likely to get. I think someone will end up paying him like 5/75 for his 32-36 season, and most of his game is legs. I'll take Jarrod Dyson at 2/20 or whatever.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2017 Posted November 15, 2017 Kenny R was reporting the Rays may blow it up this winter. Makes sense to deal Archer etc.. I could see them taking one more shot and then having a big sell off at the deadline if they aren't in a playoff spot. Small market teams almost have to have cycles of competing and rebuilding now that the big market teams are way smarter.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2017 Posted November 15, 2017 what are giving up to get archer?
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2017 Posted November 15, 2017 what are giving up to get archer? bichette
BTS Community Moderator Posted November 15, 2017 Author Posted November 15, 2017 bichette Archer is under control for 4 years @ 33.7M, including team options. is only 29, and has 4 straight seasons of 3.2-5.2 fWAR and 30+ starts. He's probably worth something like $90M in assets as a trade chip. We'd probably be looking at something like Bichette, Zeuch, and Alford.
