Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2017 Posted May 31, 2017 448 babip Definitely a little high When you're hitting that good, it's to be expected.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2017 Posted May 31, 2017 448 babip Definitely a little high Such as life when you crush Baseballs all day. Its not like he's sneaking soft singles through the infield every at-bat.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2017 Author Posted May 31, 2017 Unrelated, but I'm sure people remember my draft obsession with Scott Kingery. Currently obliterating the Eastern League as part of the Phillies' AA version of the Lugnuts.

I don't mean to be a wet blanket but .448 babip is .448 babip.

Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2017 Posted June 1, 2017 And Mike Trout's BABIP in the minors was at .400. The lucky bastard must've sacrificed some rum to Jobu. It couldn't possibly be that good hitters historically run really high BABIPs in the low minors, no.

KevinGregg Verified Member Posted June 1, 2017 Posted June 1, 2017 Comparing Bo to Trout based on less than 300 plate appearances is getting way out of hand. For every Mike trout there are 1000 travis sniders.

intrigid Verified Member Posted June 1, 2017 Posted June 1, 2017 For those who maybe aren't 100% up to speed on this conversation... BABIP is more of a "luck" indicator in the major leagues, while it is more of an "ability" indicator in the minor leagues, due to the fact that A ballers aren't used to fielding 100mph line drives which are routine at the major league level?

You're own argument can also be used to counter that argument. Low minors have generally bad defense which doesn't get to alot of balls that are ruled hits when they could be outs, artificially inflating his babip. In any case, this board has flown off the handle on Bichette. I was merely pointing out his babip is insanely high and will probably regress a bit, I didn't say he was a lucksack talentless hack. Yes good and great hitters carry high babips in the minors. But not at a .450 clip over long periods.

Yes good and great hitters carry high babips in the minors. But not at a .450 clip over long periods. He won't carry that kind of BABIP through to the majors obviously, but even at a more manageable .350 level, his line would be a solid .305/.376/.557, which is plenty to get excited about. That estimate assumes that all of his 'lucky' hits were singles, so round down the SLG a touch.

And that it's stupid to compare him to the GOAT
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2017 Posted June 1, 2017 I'm just saying it might make sense to temper expectations a little. And that it's stupid to compare him to the GOAT Babe Ruth has 9 seasons better than Mike Trout's best, so let's hold off on calling him the greatest of all time for now.
