JaysAllMighty Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2017 Posted May 31, 2017 So tired of Gibby giving days off when not needed. Like he wants to lose on purpose.
TorontonianJD Verified Member Posted May 31, 2017 Posted May 31, 2017 Are JD and Tulo that fragile that they can't play?
Governator Community Moderator Posted May 31, 2017 Posted May 31, 2017 So tired of Gibby giving days off when not needed. Like he wants to lose on purpose. How do you know who needs rest?
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2017 Posted May 31, 2017 So tired of Gibby giving days off when not needed. Like he wants to lose on purpose. We don't know who does or doesn't need rest, nor do we even know if that decision is being entirely left up to Gibby when it comes to these two players. For all we know, this is merely Gibby following orders or a plan put in place by the training staff/management to ease the two back into the lineup. I seriously doubt Gibby woke up this morning and decided to not use a third of his starters today for no damn good reason.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2017 Posted May 31, 2017 I'd prefer Gibby space the rest out (meaning Donaldson one day, Tulo the next, Pillar the next, etc). Taking all three out of the lineup at once is going to make it more difficult to win today, especially with Bolsinger on the mound who needs all the run support he can get. But no one here knows who is banged up and who isn't.

On top of it, Bolsinger could throw up a dud any given game making a full lineup a moot point. Having a full strength team against the Yankees is better. Gibby is playing 4D Chess. Now let's go out there and win anyway.

Gibby is treating these guys like catchers

Gibby is treating these guys like catchers Well we don't know that for sure, it's not like they are going to be taking every other day off all season. It might be doctor recommended and not Gibby too?
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2017 Posted May 31, 2017 The Blue Jays organization is so nice. We are playing a 12:30 noon game for the Reds getaway day and taking our best position players out of the lineup for them. If that isn't enough we are throwing Mike Boslinger at them today! Great day for the Reds! They just made it so easy for them!
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2017 Posted May 31, 2017 Are they trying to throw this f***ing game? Gibbons having a bout of Pete Rose syndrome and betting on the Reds? Why would you put your worst possible line-up out there on the day you have your worst pitcher on the mound? If you're going to give Donaldson, Tulowitzki and Pillar a rest at least do it when Stroman is on the mound and you have a chance to win the game with 4 runs or less. Pillar just had a potty-mouthed rest and Donaldson and Tulo played half the game on Monday. How much rest do these guys need.

Gibby is treating these guys like catchers Could be the front office directing him on how to play JD/Tulo. And if you concede that they aren't going to play Saturday because it's a day game after a night game why would they play today's day game after a night game? We are right back in the playoff chase. Not even just the Wild Card but the Division. After the 2-11 start it's pretty impressive. But the key is to stay healthy. I'm all for being protective of the players.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2017 Posted May 31, 2017 I thought we now have a highly educated staff of physicians who are helping to regulate this type of s***.....like how the 76'ers had doctors regulating how much practice time each of their athletes participated in. Am I mis-remembering again? Regardless, it is incredibly ignorant to put this on Gibby alone.

The answer is a lot FFS.

He probably gave Pillar the day off on his own being that he's 1 for his last 24... but the rest of the guys coming back after short rehab stints is likely from FO or doctors.

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2017 Posted May 31, 2017 Pillar not in Center is going to be the real killer. Boslinger gives up a ton of rockets to the gaps. These rest days need to be split up. Are they going to do this Saturday as well? Maybe they should change it to a night game if that's the case.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2017 Posted May 31, 2017 Hopefully this is the last time we ever see Bolsinger again. I think we have said that for 3 straight starts they keep trotting him out there. I thought he was gone for good last time.

I'm pretty sure they can't just change game times to benefit a home team 3 days in advance.

Bolsinger is out of options but last time he got through waivers so was assigned to Buffalo. Maybe this time someone with pitching injuries claims him.

It's not saying much but I do have a bit more faith in Bolsinger than the other two depth arms we've been forced to use (Lawrence and Latos)...for some reason.

Yea.. at least with Biagini in the rotation mix we can now handle 1 downed man going forward using either Liriano or Biagini as his replacement. But beyond that, our depth is pure scrapheap and that's scary.
