Defensive metrics are weak. Just ask Spanky.

They're pretty solid now.

Let's be realistic, if his defensive metrics loved Goins, I'd bet you'd use them to back you up how good Goins is defensively.

I am sorry to all the Goins fans out there but 3 days ago i told a person he was nothing more then a modern day Johnny Mac and they lost it. In 3 years his total WAR is .4 i believe and people still think that he is an absolute gift. He a good day at the plate but when you are more or less a glove only player and you boot a ball that should be routine your going to get criticized for it.

He's a left-handed Johnny Mac exactly.

I mean he's delusional but you kind of have to think that way. You have to strive for something. You don't want him to be happy with being mediocre to below average. He is what he is though. I'm glad that error didn't f*** us over.

I am very glad that they took this game and I have been shown to be wrong. Now the team has rested players for the Yankees.

Position players but the bullpen is in rough shape. We will need Estrada to be good because both Smith and Osuna unlikely to be available. Maybe they will let Smith pitch 3 straight games but not Osuna.

To play in the MLB, a player needs to have confidence. However, Goins really is a utility player, he has shown this season that if he is overplayed then his offensive numbers drop off dramatically. Hopefully Goins will keep his confidence but also accept his role as a utility player.

When it's all said and done Mac will be looked upon as the far better player. He played in parts of 16 MLB seasons for good reason. Ryan Goins won't even sniff that.

If you take their straight hitting stats they are basically the same. The difference is Mac played in the steroid era so more is expected of his bat so his wRC+ is lower. But their fielding isn't even comparable. Mac had 23 DRS in 2007 and was a good SS into his late 30's which kept him in MLB. Goins' defense is already slipping and it'd probably take a small miracle for him to remain a big leaguer through his early to mid 30's.

In other words Mac's defense kept him replacement level for 16 seasons despite him hitting his decline years. Goins is in his prime and still can't muster positive WAR. As he hits his decline years he'll become unplayable.

Sorry nextyear, I can't help but cower in the face of your virtuoso intellect. Like when you said Donaldson should hit 6th? Brilliant!

I said he should be moved down until he shows that he has his timing back. I want to be wrong, and it seems that I am, but let's wait another week to be sure, and then I will admit to being wrong.

In any case, my concern was that the Blue Jays would drop in the standings while Tulowitzki and Donaldson got their timing back, but that hasn't happened so I am happy to be wrong.

I am learning from the best, Spanky.

After tonight the Blue Jays will either be 5.5 out of first, or within 1 game of the Orioles. Either situation would make me happy.

Another positive note, most of the Blue Jays regulars are rested for the game against the Yankees Thursday night. The Yankees will have to play the Orioles tonight, and then fly into Toronto.

Yourself? That's all I got, everything else is mandatory.

This is the most delusional a Jays player has been about his own ability since JPA compared himself to Posey.

I dont mind his comments. I think when you get to that level and you've had spurts of performing you're gonna have that mindset you can play that way consistently. You have to. I mean, you're right that it isn't realistic, but at 29 I can definitely see where he's coming from.

He'd like to play every day; we'd like him to be a league average hitter. You can't always get what you want. If he wants to play every day, it will be in AAA, because there's not a single MLB team where he's a viable starter.

The New York Mets are playing Jose Reyes almost every day and his numbers are worse than Ryan Goins - http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=1736&position=SS versus http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=9807&position=2B/SS

I would go with Ryan Goins over Jose Reyes any day. People are peeved because of Ryan Goins error in the 9th yesterday, but when Jose Reyes was in Toronto, every play at SS was an adventure.

Not every team has a Tulowitzki on their team. Ryan Goins isn't a star but he is reliable at SS and that is why Gibbons played him while Tulowitzki was out, and why management kept him over Melvin Upton Jr.

Unfortunately for Goins, if he gets traded then I see him as a journeyman player bouncing from team to team with stints in AAA.
