Coghlan shouldn't be in the majors...can't even play LF lol. Guy was chasing his own tail there lol

What exactly did you expect him to do? Come up with the ball?

I guess running in circles is acceptable to you regardless of if he could catch it or not. Does not give him a pass...and it hit the top of the wall so maybe there would have been a chance to rob it if he wasn't circling himself even though it would be highly unlikely to catch it...it was a terrible display in the OF

That was a really nonchalant catch for a ball hit into the alley. The bullpen continues to do a terrific job.

The bullpen is really coming around for sure.

Bautista running balls down in RF. Vacuum cleaning at 3B. Hitting bomb after bomb. His trade value went from 0 to 100 real quick.

I'm a huge Bautista fan and a huge homer but I'd love to see him come back as a corner infielder/outfielder UT guy.

Man I joked about bringing Osuna in, but Grilli is probably the last guy I would have used. Hope he can bounce back today.

The bullpen is rounding in to form despite two of who were supposed to be our primary guys sucking big time. If Howell and/or Grilli can get it going it will only deepen it further.

Nice win but ewww at starting Boslinger. We could have went with a 3-man rotation with the 2 off days this week.

I wish I could find the post where you pretty much told me to delete my account for suggesting this exact thing. It was definitely in one of the offseason threads talking about possible Donaldson backups.

Seriously? I love Jose. I don't remember that. Maybe I had qualms about his defense at 3B at the time or maybe you suggested 2B as well? Anyway, apologies if I did. This whole Martin/Bautista 3B thing has change my views on that a little bit.

Ye ask, and I shall provide.

Love the idea of nabbing Valbuena. NJH made a good case in one of his idea threads too.

One more lineup involves getting Donaldson off hos feet too:

Donaldson - DH

Morales - 1B

Valbuena - 3B

Pearce - LF

I think that's a really nice little loop, and minimizes how many below average hitters get a full game's worth of ABs when the team inevitably needs to give the best player a breather.

I do still wonder if Bautista has the chops to play 3B? He might want to consider a short term deal and show the league he can be a corner-utility type (+ the great bat obvs).

Well he used to cover 3B until he went to the OF. Stranger things have happened, and his suitors seem pretty much non-existent with his OF play seemingly being a factor. Could be a right-handed Valbuena situation, but obviously the better bat (and more age). He doesn't have a lot of time to re-direct his career though, admittedly.

Can he even throw?

I don't know. That's why I said I wonder if he has the chops.

I think the range is the more concerning aspect. The infield throwing motion is a little different than the outfield so he could likely get by.

But with Donaldson here I don't know why you would even ask him to play 3rd when he would only get a few games there anyway.

He was pretty bad at 3B back when he was in his 20's and it was his main position.

What on earth makes you think that at age 36 with a bum shoulder he could go back to playing 3B after not playing the position for years?

In fairness, late-2016 Jose looked like a broken man who could barely run the bases. My suggestion was that he could probably market himself as a corner-utility player: 1B, 3B, LF, RF. With his bat declining, even being simply an above average power hitter seems pretty valuable if you can stick him into five different spots in the lineup (including DH), which is pretty uncommon for 37-yos who are treading through the end of the careers on Old Man Skills alone.

He looks fairly refreshed early this season, though. I definitely did not suggest 2B.

EDIT: You beat me to it.
