Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted April 25, 2017 Posted April 25, 2017 Shartkins need to cut Salty and sign Navarro asap. I'd be all for that. Sign Navarro to the major league minimum and just let him catch Estrada. Navarro is better in every facet of the game compared to Salty. Hitting, defense, framing. Should have just brought him back to begin with.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted April 25, 2017 Posted April 25, 2017 Among those here in St. Louis: Mark Buehrle, who chatted with Justin Smoak on the field and is now headed into the Blue Jays clubhouse. We should sign him and start him this series instead of Lawrence. His 78 mph fastball would be an improvement.

Laika Community Moderator Posted April 25, 2017 Posted April 25, 2017 Are the Blue Jays trying to lose without obviously tanking? I think you have to ask the question. Running so many guys like Smoak, Salty, Barney, Coghlan, Zeke, Goins, Lawrence, Latos, and Tepera out there willingly and regularly has to raise some integrity questions. Do they even care about winning?
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted April 25, 2017 Posted April 25, 2017 This is surprisingly true. Wow. Sad but true. Plus he's got vetrin presents in whatever butt buddy status he has going on with Estrada. I also think he's funny and fits in the clubhouse well given some of his past hi-jinks. None of that really matters of course but when compared to Salty it's at least something.

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted April 25, 2017 Posted April 25, 2017 Surely we can do better than Navarro... I mean the Nats just cut Derek Norris in Spring for nothing. Surely if we offered something half way decent we could net a decent backup who can play defence. Gotta be some guys around the league who plays sparingly or are stuck in AAA with good framing numbers and a strong arm. I wouldn't even want to touch Navarro. He was grossly overweight while playing. Imagine what he looks like now sitting on his ass for 8 months.

Do they even care about winning?I've truly begun to ask myself that very question in the last few games. It's a ghastly lineup day in and day out. It wouldn't even be hard to bring in some available guys that are marked improvements over some of the options the Jays are using right meow.

We have better options in AAA.

I would have been ok seeing how AJ would have done. The past couple of years his defense was so so but before it wasn't bad. Neither him or Salty hit.

His pitch framing is slightly below average. His defense and bat aren't great but are playable. He's probably a fringe backup slightly better than replacement level but given what I've seen from Salty that's got to be worth at least a 1 WAR improvement.
Gary Verified Member Posted April 25, 2017 Posted April 25, 2017 Who was the better player Prince Fielder or Gabe Kapler? Dancing Gabe.

It might be an improvement over Salty but that's because the latter is f***ing awful at everything baseball related.

Last year it was basically league average.

ChrisS Verified Member Posted April 25, 2017 Posted April 25, 2017 Dont understand the rationale for having Martin at 3rd if it means the worst hitter on the roster is behind the plate and he cant throw or frame pitches for s***. Should have stuck with Barney at 3rd, Travis 2nd and Martin behind the plate.

Yeah in limited playing time (18 PA worth), Salty already is listed with -0.4 fWAR. It has taken Bautista 85 PA to beat that with -0.5 fWAR. Although Pearce has only required 45 PA to register -0.5 fWAR. Race to the bottom ! I don't know whether to laugh or cry anymore:(
