It's quite pitcher heavy but that was expected.

Laika Community Moderator Posted June 9, 2017 Posted June 9, 2017 Seth Romero is pretty interesting. Top 15 talent with awful makeup. Draft him in the 20s and then you can maybe sweep drafting a child molester in Heimlich under the rug at 99.

Can you imagine the locker room s*** that Heimlich is going to have to put up with (and rightfully so).

Canning could, though I'm not certain I like what I've been reading about him. KATOH loves him, interestingly enough.

Draft him in the 20s and then you can maybe sweep drafting a child molester in Heimlich under the rug at 99. Seth Romero is the guy I want the most that's realistic to be available. He could give our BP a boost this year From BA On pure talent, Romero is a top 10 prospect and among the top college pitchers in this year's draft. He's a lefthander with a chance to have three quality pitches: a 93-96 mph fastball, a slider and a changeup. Romero's plus fastball is his primary weapon. Throwing from a low three-quarters slot, he does a good job of getting in on the hands of righthanded hitters and is capable of locating his fastball to either side of the plate. His low slot makes his fastball even tougher for lefties. His slider has excellent bite and is also a plus pitch. He uses his changeup less often, but it has deception and the potential to be at least average. Romero has shown a consistent ability to pound the strike zone while generating swings and misses. He was leading Division I with 15.7 strikeouts per nine innings in 2017. For his college career, he struck out 11.5 batters per nine while walking only 2.8 per nine. But as teams line up their draft boards, they're surely spending as much time talking about questions about Romero's makeup as they are discussing his swing-and-miss stuff. Romero was suspended during the 2016 season for what Houston termed a violation of team rules. He was suspended again this April, reinstated and then kicked off the team just a week after his reinstatement. Romero also had surgery during high school where a screw was inserted in his elbow. Scouts will have to feel comfortable that Romero's problems stem more from immaturity than anything else, but at some point, likely in the first round, a team will view his talent as worth the risk, because he's a three-pitch lefty who could move quickly. After throwing less than 50 innings for Houston, his limited workload makes it easier for a team to let him throw significant innings in his first pro season. And he has the stuff to potentially help out a big league club in the bullpen this fall.

He could give our BP a boost this year He honestly sounds like Carlos Rodon, if you downgrade the epic slider to just a plus pitch. A riskier, poor man's Rondon. Still seems pretty f***ing good for a pick in the 20's.
Caper Verified Member Posted June 9, 2017 Posted June 9, 2017 Can you imagine the locker room s*** that Heimlich is going to have to put up with (and rightfully so). Geeze, I guess I agree. But 15 is pretty young too. Hard to defend. But I don't think you can say that he can't become a a good person after committing that crime. That said, they are going to torture him when and if he makes it to the bigs. He would get less hassle if he murdered someone.
Caper Verified Member Posted June 9, 2017 Posted June 9, 2017 This does not in the least excuse Heimlich's behavior, but in reading about him this stood out. The seventh of eight children, Heimlich was homeschooled until his sophomore year of high school, when he transferred to Puyallup High School as a fully enrolled student. Also, if a team wants to draft him. They better make sure he tries as best he can to make amends to his past. The victim's mother said she does not keep tabs on Heimlich but knows he's one of the top players in the United States. She said her daughter was young enough that "she doesn't really remember everything that happened," but nonetheless has been ostracized from family events because most members of the Heimlich family have sided with Luke.

Geeze, I guess that's fine, right? *smh* Now that makes me sick! I guess you're cool with that, Boxcar?
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted June 9, 2017 Posted June 9, 2017 I was just suprised to hear that. You usually don't hear guys like that going in the first round.

Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted June 9, 2017 Posted June 9, 2017 This Heimlich guy just makes me gag
Slade Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2017 Posted June 10, 2017 I like Allen Wood a lot, if none of the upper tier college bats falls to us I would pop him at 22 because I don't think he'll get passed Boston or the Cubs. I wouldn't waste a 1st round pick on Romero. Bad attitude in high school, suspended by his college team twice. Once for drugs, once for conditioning and now kicked off the team. He's advised by Boras so it's not like you are going to save anything.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2017 Posted June 10, 2017 Not a chance he gets drafted. No matter where he gets drafted there would be a massive outcry from fans and media. No one wants to associate there brand with a child molester honesty its worse than a murderer. Maybe if it was a top 5 talent but he's not even a top 50 pick talent.

You really think Boxy or anyone else is cool with the victim being ostracized by the Heimlich family? That's f***ed up and the exact opposite of taking responsibility. I have to agree with Pendleton, this guy sounds like bad news. I didn't think he was going to be drafted before and now I'm even more convinced that he won't.
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2017 Posted June 10, 2017 I think an article like this points to why there's hope for someone like Heimlich. I would be okay with the Jays taking a late flier on him. http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/story?id=3943187&page=1

Just for clarity, while my post does indeed represent my views on this player, it was also half intended as comedic relief. Sometimes my puns are only funny to me and I'm ok with that.

jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2017 Posted June 10, 2017 Looks like he's dropping out of the tournament. Can't really blame him after that gets reported.

You learn not to do that when you are like 9, and he was basically the age you are allowed to drive a car. Its not even about him anyway you have to think how it would effect his teammates around him.

You learn not to do that when you are like 9, and he was basically the age you are allowed to drive a car. But he wasn't the age you could drive a car. He was 7 of 8 children (raised by kids) and home-schooled. Actual experts in the field assessed him and gave him almost no chance to re-offend.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2017 Posted June 10, 2017 I don't want no rapist. Some other team can be the hero and give him a shot. I'd rather draft kids who appear to be good human beings first.
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted June 10, 2017 Posted June 10, 2017 I'm watching the Louisville vs Kentucky college game and it's full of future MLB players. When is Drew Ellis expected to be drafted? He is going off right now
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted June 10, 2017 Posted June 10, 2017 Tristan Pompey looks really good as well. Should be a really high pick next year. Taller and maybe a little more consitent power than Dalton. Seems to be not nearly as fast (or doesn't use his speed) but from what I have seen a better overall hitter in the long run.

As long as he's both mentally and physically stronger than his brother.
