"Broadcaster, musician, actor...You name it, I'll do it"

Looks like he's pursuing an acting and music career. Barry goes Hollywood!

I thought he was adequate so I won't rejoice at him leaving or anything, but the players clearly didn't love him and he had very little rapport with them.

I guess he was kind of an annoying personality but it honestly seemed like he was being almost bullied at certain points

No idea if you're trolling or not but I legitimately thought this. No way a short, awkward TV reporter would get any respect from 25 athletes night in and night out. I wouldn't be surprised if Davis just quit not wanting to do it all over again for yet another year.

That is by far the best Barry Davis moment. I fully expect he's joining the Marilyn Dennis Show where he'll fit in 100 times better than he did with the Jays.

He always seemed like a good sport though even when you felt embarrassed for him as a viewer. Anyways, he seems like a decent, affable nerd and I wish him the best. If nothing else he gave us this awesome gif.

100%. A few things come to mind, like during a postseason celebration and Barry was trying to do his sportsnet interviews and there you have Melvin Upton and Justin Smoak pouring beer on his head telling him to get the f*** out of here.

If he didn't take it in stride it would have been a lot worse than what it was. When he dropped a foul ball on the fly during a game, Sportsnet made a segment with him and Kevin Pillar the next day with Kevin showing him how to catch a fly ball. Then later in the season he wore this glove at a game:

And him wearing the "We like our team, Barry" shirt as well. He was a good sport but getting bullied by ~25 arrogant athletes for 8 months a year traveling on the road with them doesn't seem like a very fun gig.

No it doesn't but everyone's wired differently. I mean I get the general idea that just because he took it well doesn't mean that he should continue to take it. The players never seemed to come around to him no matter how willing he was to self deprecate so it was not going to get better. Kind of seems like Sportsnet's been grooming Jackie Redmond to take over his gig.

I think this new definition of bullying trivializes actual bullying.

I don't think the nuance was lost actually. NJH said "almost bullied at certain points". He was clearly putting a lot of asterisks on "bullying" with that phrasing.

Yeah I could absolutely see Barry being a sports guy on some morning show and f***ing killing it. He reminds me of Frank Ferragine (Breakfast Television).

I suspect Jackie Redmond will be doing it this year.

I think there's a better chance Hazel Mae does it. She already was taking over for Barry as the year went on.

Redmond does a lot of WWE and other stuff for SN, I doubt she would even want the job. Its not even a good job tbh. Working almost every day, insane travel schedule (they fly commercial, not with the team).

There are way more eyeballs on Jackie Redmond if she takes the Jays gig. Would be a bad career move to turn it down (assuming it's offered of course).

Maybe 'belittling'? Regardless, anyone who has worked in an all-male environment will have met the one dude who becomes accepted as the butt of every joke. It's pretty easy to spot. I can absolutely see a short, middle-aged reporter not getting the same base respect from the players that they may give to a woman, an older and more established male reporter, or an ex-ballplayer. Obviously can't prove it but it's pretty reasonable to think Davis' dream career isn't to have beer poured on him on live TV by 25 macho *******s.
