burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 Interested to hear about the mutual options.
Ray Verified Member Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 They're saying mutual option, but make it sound like it's more of a vesting option with all the incentives and such.
Ray Verified Member Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 It is a 2018 mutual option. So it's practically a 1-year deal.
labadee Verified Member Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 I want 2 years Damn they really shouldve listened to your valued input during the negotiations

wk680 Verified Member Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 I want 2 years If (God forbid) he has another mediocre/injury plagued season in 2017, you will be glad it was not 2 year guaranteed. That whole draft pick value thing pales in comparison to the risk of being locked in on a washed up 37 year old with a questionable attitude.
Gary Verified Member Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 Jose is going full out PED in 2017 to cash in on those huge mutual options!

RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 Does this put our projections at 85 Wins or 84?
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 Jose is going full out PED in 2017 to cash in on those huge mutual options! I'm not sure you understand the word mutual!
Gary Verified Member Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 I thought they said announcement is not for days Is it for GIbby Extension. It's a Michael Saunders appreciation conference.
jerb Verified Member Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 Scott MacArthur @ScottyMacThinks Per TSN #MLB Insider Steve Phillips: Bautista gets $18M in 2017. Could get up to $60M over 3 years with options/incentives. #BlueJays
glory Old-Timey Member Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 Yeah this is basically a one year deal. If he has a great year then he'll decline the option, and if he's average or stinks, then the Jays will. One year is definitely less risky. Let him have a big year and then leave. No issues with that. I'll pour some liquor for the lost comp pick though. Was looking forward to 3 firsts.

jerb Verified Member Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 Bob Nightengale Verified account @BNightengale The $18 million guarantee for Jose Bautista, however, includes the buyouts
puphood Verified Member Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 Welcome back JB. Now its time have a bounce back year.....
Ray Verified Member Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 If you told me at the beginning of 2016 that we would get Bautista for $18 million in 2017 and 2 first round draft picks I'd be pretty content. Now add a lefty like Blevins or Wood and you're set.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 Bob Nightengale Verified account @BNightengale The $18 million guarantee for Jose Bautista, however, includes the buyouts Ah ok, so for example he could get like 16 million this year and then next year's buyout is 2 million?
Gary Verified Member Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 Bob Nightengale Verified account @BNightengale The $18 million guarantee for Jose Bautista, however, includes the buyouts Interesting. This opens up more budget space for 2017.
Gary Verified Member Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 Ah ok, so for example he could get like 16 million this year and then next year's buyout is 2 million? Correct. Opens up some money for this season.

KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 Ah ok, so for example he could get like 16 million this year and then next year's buyout is 2 million? Seems like a nice compromise to keep everyone happy. He gets slightly more than the q.o. but the Jays have slightly less than the q.o. on the books this year. I like that a lot for both sides.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 Got there just in time to see them switch over to an update about a hockey team firing their coach. Ditto.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 We still need to look at Moss. We will get more mileage out of a left handed hitter than a left handed specialist.
