It's really just a way to push some of the guarantee onto an extra year.

 

I don't understand how an example in which a mutual option is picked up (Aramis Ramirez) would be "exactly the same thing" to a deal that is designed with rejecting the mutual option in mind. Yes, you're putting off salary to the following year in both examples, but the first scenario results in what is essentially a back-loaded 2 year deal, while the second results in a 1 year deal with a deferral. Again, I'm having a hard time seeing how it's "exactly the same thing".

 

It's looking like you might have to go beyond one sentence to explain it to me.

 

 

 

What North said about mutual options pushing guaranteed money into an extra year holds true regardless of whether the mutual option is exercised in that second year.

If you thought the casuals reaction to Encarnacion to Indians was bad....

 

You realize their reaction would be justified right? Bautista is cheap and is a good bounce back candidate and we have some serious holes in an offense that struggled even last year.

Is this deal ever going to happen? I was in the Dominican last year and they have fax machines, email, internet, scanners etc.

I feel if those park adjusted splash charts for Morales do come to fruition then I feel like Morales can give us 80% of an Edwin, and hopefully an AngryBaustista can make up the rest of that 20%. Then Pearce is already better than Smoak. And if we can get decent 3rd outfielder stats, I feel our bats can actually be better than last year slightly.

I'm sure it's not too hard for billion dollar company Rogers to put Shapiro and/or Atkins on a plane to the DR where they could discuss this face to face, not delaying anything.

I wonder how much Granderson would cost in a trade. If the idiot Mets are asking for two prospects for Jay Bruce it's probably a ridiculous price, but he'd fit really well here.

Shouldn't be much to get Bruce, what are they asking for? Maybe they Jays want some salary relief.

It kinda sounds like they're discussing various scenarios regarding contract length, but perhaps have a fallback option they've both agreed on or something.

I'm happy! I think it's a good deal for both sides. Solves a lot of the OF woes for 2017 and gives Bautista a chance to bounce back and try to cash-in for one last contract.

 

Guys a legend and it'll be great to have him back, even if for just 1 year.
