Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2019 Posted January 23, 2019 None of that shyte is justifiable, in that era, there was a f***ing tonne of guys using. You’re preaching to the choir, but that’s how they justify not voting for them.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted January 23, 2019 Posted January 23, 2019 Bonds not being a HOF is a joke. Two years from now will be the key one for Bonds and Clemens. Next year will be Larry Walker’s last year push, Schilling with helium and Jeter’s an automatic to take a vote from virtually everyone. Over the past couple years the trend has been for everyone to vote for 10 people and most do so. So 4 went in, only 1 new great candidate to vote for, McGriff’s 169 up for grabs...if Bonds and Clemens can grab 30ish more votes, they might get in 2021. New listed that year are; Buehrle, Burnett, Cuddyer, Haren, Hudson, Torii Hunter, Laroche, Aramis, Rios, Swisher, Uggla, Victorino and Zito. There is barely a votable candidate from these. 2022 would be Schilling, Bonds and Clemens last years on the ballot and the 1st year for ARod who really needs Bonds and Clemens in to get there.

Alex Rodriguez is going to be a fascinating one, but I think he gets in eventually. I agree with Terminator that Bonds and Clemens won’t get in. There are just too many voters that will never vote for either under any circumstances.

I think all 3 get in. Schilling was a beast. He'll get in.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2019 Posted January 23, 2019 You’re preaching to the choir, but that’s how they justify not voting for them. Right, which is asinine. None of that was at you, Bob, fyi.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2019 Posted January 23, 2019 P.S. I just watched the Q@A with the inductees it was pretty good. Doc's wife and boys were there, but they didn't sit at the head table. Good stuff.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2019 Posted January 23, 2019 haha Bonds had a .609 OBP one year. Holy f*** that's so insane. He was 43 years old with a 4% swinging strike rate and a .288 ISO. Jesus I can't even believe what I'm looking at. Clearly you're not looking at a hall of famer

Schilling isn't even being kept out because he's suspected of being a cheater ffs. It's all his political views which have f*** all to do with his ability to play baseball.
jerb Verified Member Posted January 23, 2019 Posted January 23, 2019 Arash Madani Verified account @ArashMadani Brandy Halladay tells us the family has decided that Roy Halladay will not go into Cooperstown representing the Blue Jays or Phillies. No specific team cap. "He was a Major League Baseball player and that's how we want him to be remembered," she said.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2019 Posted January 23, 2019 That's kinda retarded Also, iirc, the hall decides what cap the player wears. Isn't he remembered as a baseball player by virtue of him being inducted into the BASEBALL hall of fame?

He spent 14 years in the Jays org and 4 with Philly.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2019 Posted January 23, 2019 That's disappointing. Roy wanted to go in as a Jay and he signed a one day contract to retire with the team. I thought this was a no brainer.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2019 Posted January 23, 2019 That's unfortunate. Makes one wonder about the discussions Roy and Brandy had regarding the Jays. His dissatisfaction, particularly in the last few years, was kind of apparent, yet he went out and did his job like the pro he was.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2019 Posted January 23, 2019 I'm kinda confused as to why Brandy Halladay thinks it's her place to dictate Roy's induction. With all due respect, this has absolutely nothing to do with her.

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2019 Posted January 23, 2019 Damn man that's really disappointing. Alomar rocks our logo but he was only here 5 years. He's barely a Blue Jays IMO. I always though Roy considered himself a Blue Jay and the Phillies were simply the "dessert" portion of his career that he really enjoyed. I think that's how he put it. Idk if the family has beef with the Jays brass right now or what but something isn't sitting right with this.

She either doesn't understand what this means, has had a falling out with the Jays, or the Phillies are kissing her ass/giving her perks to the point that she wants to please them.
Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2019 Posted January 23, 2019 That's kinda retarded Also, iirc, the hall decides what cap the player wears. Isn't he remembered as a baseball player by virtue of him being inducted into the BASEBALL hall of fame? Not anymore. The stopped that policy a few years back. They let Vlad choose his cap and he chose the Angels.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2019 Posted January 23, 2019 Sad if Doc doesn't go in as a Blue Jay. Probably our last kick at the HOF can until Vladdy Jr. gets in.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2019 Posted January 23, 2019 What I am reading is the HOF decides. They take the player (or player family) wishes into account. Gary Carter wanted to go in as a Met, the HOF decided he would go in as an Expo. edit - SirBJay says the policy has been changed

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2019 Posted January 23, 2019 They let Vlad choose his cap and he chose the Angels. Kind of sucks but that one I understand. Pick the current big market team over the defunct team any day of the week from his perspective.

She don't get the significance and is being partisan... he's in an interview with Brunt saying he's a Jay. A decade of unrivalled dominance was on and that the Blue Jays didn’t do more with one of if not the best pitcher of his generation is among the most significant missed opportunities in franchise history. By the time he forced a trade to the Philadelphia Phillies after the 2009 season, it was impossible to fault him for wanting to be part of a winner before the inevitable decline each athlete faces set in. In Philadelphia, he finally made the post-season appearances he so wanted – "I would have given my left arm to have the team we have now, it would have been a dream come true," he said during that 2016 visit to Toronto – and once his body gave out, he signed a one-day contract so he could retire with the Blue Jays. "Honestly it wasn’t so much a decision, it’s kind of the way that I looked at myself, I felt like I was a Blue Jay," said Halladay. "I just felt that I had this unique opportunity for a couple years to have a chance to chase a dream. But you knew I felt my roots, and everything else, and everything I had become and everybody that helped me become, that was all in Toronto. So it wasn’t like I had to sit down and make a decision. It was honestly the way I thought of myself." And now Halladay is what so many thought of him as – a Hall of Famer. Brunt followed that up with, "I guess I don't have to ask, who you want to go in the Hall with?" Doc says no chuckling, "The question is if I get in or not"
BTS Community Moderator Posted January 23, 2019 Posted January 23, 2019 She don't get the significance and is being partisan... he's in an interview with Brunt saying he's a Jay. This is s*****. If he’s alive he definitely goes in as a Blue Jay.

He put it in words through an interview, why do you think he retired as a Jay, c'mon. https://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/mlb/halladay-knew-wanted-remembered-blue-jay/ Listen to this straight to the point.^^^^^^

glory Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2019 Posted January 23, 2019 Something about that Brandy Halladay quote seems off. “That’s how we want him to be remembered”. Goes against everything he said publicly before his death. Maybe she decided that in respect to the Phillies org but that kind of defeats the whole point of going in with a cap.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2019 Posted January 23, 2019 I really hope you guys are overblowing this. Roy wants in as a Jay.
