With 16% of votes disclosed so far the HoF tracker (link) that tallies known votes currently has Halladay and Martinez at over 90% and Rivera at 100%. Mussina and Schilling are both currently over the threshold too.

Walker at 67 percent is promising for next year

It's insane to think Visquel is currently on 40% of the ballots submitted, yet he finished with about 10 career WAR less than Vazquez - who was omitted from the ballot completely.

I'm oddly okay with Visquel getting votes (as long as he doesn't get in) at least he was the best in the game at something for a prolonged period of time. His defense was so good that he stayed in the league for 10,000 PA's despite being a below average hitter.

I'm all ranted out about Vazquez from my 2016 rants.

Obviously the induction of Baines has helped Edgar - who's at 92.5%

I really don't think Baines induction matters. Voters hate the veterans committee. Edgar was getting in this year regardless. This is what I hate about the voting. If Edgar wasn't good enough for you 2 years ago...he shouldn't be now.

Fair enough - that was more of a tongue and cheek joke anyway.

Further to your point - it's interesting to see guys like Jeff Blair went from voting for Manny Ramirez last year - to removing him from his ballot this year (while still not voting for 10 people). Last year he was good enough, but not this year? I think the dickhole Blair has some personal rule about not voting for 10, so that's probably his flawed explanation.

They need to increase the veterans committee to like 500 voters or more and make them from different eras. When you get 20 guys all from Baines' era it's easy for nepotism and good 'ole boys to vote each other in. Harder to do that with a bigger, more diverse pool of veterans who are voting.

Or just get rid of the veterans committee.

Or limit them to exceptional cases, Managers, owners and umpires

I'd actually be in favour of each voter giving a mandatory detailed explanation for each player that they either chose to vote for or chose not to vote for. I feel like this would weed out some of the morons who barely remember what a baseball looks like and would really expose some voters for the grandstanding egotistical morons they are.

I think we need an explanation of how they got on the ballot in the first place. 2 different committees thought Baines was acceptable. That first committee thought Joe Carter deserved merit for consideration

They should just abolish it entirely. People already get up to ten chances to get in.

This Red Sox reporter doesn’t believe in saves or closers so is submitting a blank HoF ballot:

He's almost as stupid as their fans.

Oh, is it that time of year where a bunch of self righteous cocks decide to make some dumb grand gesture in an effort to correct some perceived wrong and get a bunch of attention in the process?

We should totally do a podcast about this.

This writer has a very hard time with reality.

Yes, the save stat is stupid. But ...yes, events that happen at the end of games ARE more important than things that happen earlier in games, because there's less time for the other team to respond. However, that doesn't mean that if things happen at the end of the game that more skill is involved, unless you subscribe to the theory that the ability to pitch under more "pressure" is a skill and not every major league reliever has that skill. Naturally that's impossible to test given that the majority of relievers never get to try and close games, which some would say is because their team has already decided they don't have that skill, which is likely not complete ********, because there are most certainly some guys who would not pitch as well in that role. But, it's probably afr fewer than people think.

Anyways, yeah this writer is dumb and looking for attention.

I think anyone who has EVER submitted a blank ballot should be banned from voting for life. They clearly don't take the responsibility seriously. Why the hall allows people to do this, I don't know. It's almost like they really don't care about the integrity of their own institution.

I said something similar to Keith Law on twitter. All he said was "it doesn't work like that"

Yeah dipshit, that's kinda the whole f***ing point?

Walker looks like he might actually get in. With the jump it looks like he's getting this year and if 4 or 5 guys get in, he's looking like a realistic add for 2020 in his final season.

I'd also ban Keith Law from voting, just on principle.

I'm too lazy to read the article, but he's decided to submit a blank ballot because Rivera is a candidate? or our of protest to Rivera who will be a first ballot HOFer?

Why the F wouldn't he just vote for the players he thinks are deserving? What a douche.

Mussina is a HoF imo, but how is he ahead of two guys who were a lot better than him, lol?

I'm not even going to get started on the fact that Harold Baines will be inducted to the HoF before Barry Bonds.

Also, glad Rolen probably won't fall off the ballot but his results are embarrassing.

Finally, you name a f***ing award after a guy and it takes until his final year to sneak in to the hall. What a joke but I guess we should be grateful.

I just don't picture Rolen ever getting that crowd backing to give him a push. Shame though, one of the most consistent players. Everyone that's getting votes now I can at least somewhat understand.

Here is Rosenthal's ballot. I've seen worse but he does include Billy Wagner and Fred McGriff. Wouldn't be the worst players in the HoF but I wouldn't vote for them.

No idea how anyone can justify Wagner or McGriff over Scott Rolen

Decent job by the voters this year IMO. Hopefully Clemens and Bonds make it eventually. Walker and Schilling probably deserve it as well.
