G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted January 18, 2017 Author Posted January 18, 2017 Jeff Bagwell, Tim Raines, Ivan Rodriguez. http://baseballhall.org/hof/class-of-2017 Trevor Hoffman missed by 1%. Yay Thank God Raines finally got in
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted January 18, 2017 Posted January 18, 2017 Larry Walker needs to get in though. He's now the only guy I will really care about in the coming years. Vlad is getting in no doubt.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted January 18, 2017 Posted January 18, 2017 Pretty swell reaction from Pudge upon finding out that he's in the Hall.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted January 18, 2017 Posted January 18, 2017 I remember watching the Rock when he came up at 2B. He was unreal exciting at the plate and on the bases. Great to see him in. Bagwell and Pudge were awesome players. No way they weren't juicing. Time for the voters to abandon this hypocritical stance against some amazing players getting shafted. Just such a facade.

I wish Hoffman would have just gotten in. Get it over with and clear the logjam some more. The writers who submitted blank ballots may have sunk his ship.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted January 19, 2017 Posted January 19, 2017 For Walker to have a chance we need to clear the logjam. The sooner Hoffman, Bonds, Clemens, Schilling, etc. get in the better the chance he has.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted January 19, 2017 Posted January 19, 2017 Ridicule from whom? You? Brownie also stated his list was the same as mine and Boxcar I did too, perfect ballot. So glad The Rock finally made it in.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted January 19, 2017 Posted January 19, 2017 What does everyone think of next year? Only 3 guys this year so that doesn't do s*** to clear the current logjam. Next year will be even worse. Chipper Jones, Jim Thome, Scott Rolen, Andruw Jones and Omar Vizquel join the ballot and will get consideration. Chipper is a lock, Thome should get in eventually. Rolen should probably get in but I don't know if he will. Andruw Jones is an interesting case. 98-2006 was a great period but he fell off a cliff fast. Vizquel shouldn't get a whiff of the HoF but my guess is that he gets in eventually. Not really sure.

The Hall of Fame is messy. How you were portrayed in the media and how much media attention you got in the first place still factor hugely.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted January 19, 2017 Posted January 19, 2017 s*** Lou Whitaker fell off the ballot yet IMO Vizquel has a legit shot. Whitaker was far better.
AdamGreenwood Old-Timey Member Posted January 19, 2017 Posted January 19, 2017 Thome should get in on the first ballot, but he probably won't. Not too many guys with 600 HR and a career 950+ OPS, but he never got any respect, despite never being tied to steroids. He's probably the most underappreciated slugger in modern day. When he hit #600, there was a quick mention of it on SportsNet. When Jeter got close to the #3000 hit, there was a month of news updates, and interrupting live broadcasts of other games, every time Jeter was up at bat.

Thome's SB/CS ratio is what will keep him from going in first ballot. But seriously, I agree Thome was a beast. He had 12 years where he hit 30+ hrs.

wamco Verified Member Posted January 19, 2017 Posted January 19, 2017 s*** Lou Whitaker fell off the ballot yet IMO Vizquel has a legit shot. Whitaker was far better. Whitaker had more career WAR than jester. Tanana more than whitey ford

I mean Walker even has more carrer WAR than Raines.

He might have his eye on Edgar Martinez though from what I've gathered. Walker is Canadian baseball royalty and deserving of the Hall though. Probably the best Canadian player other than Fergie Jenkins?
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted January 20, 2017 Author Posted January 20, 2017 Rivera easily 1st ballot Jeter and Chipper Jones too
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted January 20, 2017 Posted January 20, 2017 Rolen was better than Jeter, so he should be first ballot. I think he eventually gets in. Jones has a pretty good case for his insane peak, Halladay should get in, and I think that's it. Not a super strong crop, imo. E: Bobby Abreu has a decent case, as well.
wamco Verified Member Posted January 20, 2017 Posted January 20, 2017 Next year I go: Chipper Thome Rolen Vlad Hoffman Mussina Schilling Wagner Mcgriff Too bad vlad and Hoffman didn't get a few more votes to clear up the logjam I have to run Andrew jones vs Edmonds. Edmonds got less than 5 percent and fell off ballot immediately. Gonna be a shame when Delgado did as well and Big Papi will waltz into the hall ( meanwhile Edgar waits on the Bubble. I thought Frank Thomas getting in would give Edgar a boost as he played a lot of DH)
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted January 20, 2017 Author Posted January 20, 2017 Next year I go: Chipper Thome Rolen Vlad Hoffman Mussina Schilling Wagner Mcgriff Too bad vlad and Hoffman didn't get a few more votes to clear up the logjam Yeah, Vlad should have been in this year - In his 16-year career, Guerrero hit .318/.379/.553 with 449 home runs and a 136 wRC+. His .553 career slugging percentage ranks 21st all-time among retired players, and it would rank 14th among Hall of Famers, ahead of contemporaries like Mike Piazza and Ken Griffey Jr., both of whom were inducted last year. Guerrero’s combination of a .318 career average and 449 home runs is matched by only five players in the game’s history, all of them immortal: Babe Ruth, Stan Musial, Lou Gehrig, Ted Williams and Jimmie Foxx. None of them comes close to Guerrero’s 181 career steals, an indication of the breadth of his game in his prime. Between 1998 and 2007, Guerrero never batted below .307 or had an OPS lower than .934. His lifetime OPS of .931 would rank 18th among current Hall of Famers, three points ahead of Hank Aaron.

A lot more players would accumulate SB numbers if their managers allowed them to run freely while being caught 33% of the time. Vlady stole 181 and was caught 94 time. He was a terrible base runner and it would be very short sighted to factor in the number of SB's he had without acknowledging he probably shouldn't have been attempting most of them. G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted January 20, 2017 Author Posted January 20, 2017 Perhaps that's because their managers didn't allow them to run freely despite them being poor base runners. Vlady stole 181 and was caught 94 time. He was a terrible base runner and it would be very short sighted to factor in the number of SB's he had without acknowledging he probably shouldn't have been attempting most of them. Yeah good point Pretty sure all of those guys except Ruth could have mustered up more steals with a 2/3 success rate had they wanted to
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted January 20, 2017 Author Posted January 20, 2017 Great bat Great arm But s*** defensive play otherwise and poor steal/CS ratio Still a Hall Of Famer though
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted January 20, 2017 Posted January 20, 2017 Mike Piazza might the last player of his ilk we'll ever see. I feel like there's now way he gets 1611 games played in catcher in today's baseball not with the new emphasis on run prevention.

Theoretical question what if Buster Posey went on the juice how close to Piazza level could he get
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted January 20, 2017 Posted January 20, 2017 Theoretical question what if Buster Posey went on the juice how close to Piazza level could he get Impossible to answer. For one thing, you can't really assume that Posey isn't on the juice.
