Chris Joyner and Mike Frostad among those let go. Likely to do with the stuff he said about Sanchez and Travis last week.

there were times in the season that I was frustrated, our players were frustrated because of some of the inefficiency of our communication.”

“That happens in transitions, so that’s on me, that’s where I’ve got to ensure that doesn’t occur,” Atkins continued “… and when we are touching players with information and potential options and potential decisions to be made, that we’re much more streamlined, cohesive and leading that process.”

He's been pretty solid this year.

Shatkins said he wants 8-9 MLB starters. I agree with you he shouldn't be given a rotation spot but I think he'd be a great fit in the 6 or 7 spot for us. I'd probably start him in Buffalo and woulf fully expect him to get 20 starts or so.

I'm just reminded by that one start against the Orioles he had where he looked legitimately unhittable...I think there's a really good starter somewhere in there.

This is an astute observation. Perhaps they were nice people to deal with...they may also have been incompetent. Sometimes people entrenched in their jobs for decades get jaded. These types of moves are inevitable. Once Beeston retired the gravy train was over. I hope they land on their feet with good jobs.

Wonder of the PR firings had to do with the Donaldson rumour. Apparently they were well regarded by a lot of media members.

That probably means they leaked information easily or bought steaks. Pleasing media as a PR person probably means you are bad at your job.

Meh lots of media members said they were very professional, not just the Toronto writers. If you're talking leaks as in trades etc.. that's from inside the baseball ops dept. Shi is really the only one who breaks any stories.

John Lott had a good article on the Athletic about the changes. Interesting to see if they fill the vacancies with Canadians.

I wonder how much they pay their interns. With all of the requirements they are listing looks like they are trying to hire some pretty smart people.

They probably don't pay them much, if anything, at all. At least they didn't when I tried to get one 6 years ago.

So just like every other organization that likes to abuse the internship program as a disguise for slave labour. Got it.

s***, it's opinions like this that keeps me as a so-called political centrist when I aim for a Franco-level of fascism :(

How could you not know that John Franco was a lefty?

So I am reading the sun and there are rumours that Shapiro is going to hire Farrell for some type of management position.

WTF???

He can manage fan outrage by dressing up in a clown outfit and sitting in a dunk tank.

They worked together in Cleveland when Shapiro was GM. I knew those rumors would start.

I do not want Crafty Farrell anywhere near this team. They can stick him in the janitor's closet with Cito.

Hard to imagine there being any truth to that.

Farrell bailed on the organization for a lateral move! He's a TRADER

He won a world series. It wasn't really lateral. Not all managerial positions are created equal. With greater resources comes a greater chance for success

It's still a giant dick move to say you'd rather be managing somewhere else while you're under contract with a team to be their manager.

It absolutely is.

"We can have a seminar on this question -- not just because it's Toronto and Boston," Farrell said. "There are very distinct differences and it starts, I think it starts, at the top. And the reason I say that: I found Toronto to be a scouting-based organization, which to me is on one plane, one-dimensional. You're looking at tools. Here, it's a player-development-based system. It's the paths of the individuals that are running the organization. And that's not to be critical.

"We all know that there's three different veins in this game that people advance (through): baseball operations, scouting, player development. Well, in the player-development vein, you're going to look at things in three dimensions: mentally, physically, fundamentally to address and develop people, or develop an organization. I think as a scouting base, you go out and you evaluate the physical tools. And that's kind of where it ends, or that's the look at that time. That was my experience, that was my opinion."

In other words, the Jays draft players and then do nothing with them.

Farrell's assessment of AA's Jays was spot on. His assessment also aligns with Shapiro's on player development, which isn't surprising since he was in player development for Cleveland when Shapiro was GM there.

I don't want Farrell back in this org at all, but just because he is a s***** manager it doesn't mean he can't help the org in other ways.

But yeah, there are younger and better minds out there to use in that spot over someone who the fanbase in Toronto justifiably hates. Maybe one of the interns they want to hire for $3/hr will prove to be better in that role.

That doesn't start until the world series is over

But the off-season has started for the Jays. That's all that matters. Every other team can choke on a testicle.

The offseason started for the Jays in August

Saw in a yahoo article a guy named Miles Mikolas as a long shot candidate for the rotation. Loving the 2017 stats, but how do they translate?

2017 stats: 9.0 K/9, 1.1 BB/9, 0.5 HR/9, 2.25 ERA in 188 IP (Japan)

Anybody know about him?
