Joe Biagini will be an important part of this team for the next several years!

He's a lock for the 2018 rotation.

Stroman, Sanchez, Biagini - that's the majority of a talented, young, controllable rotation for the next few years.

And we can hope SRF and Jordan Romano aren't far behind.

Apparently Carrera has a fracture in his foot

I confess that this kind of makes me happy.

Well, if Pearce can hit like he's capable of and can play an adequate 2B (which may not be a stretch) maybe we only need an extra bench piece. Shouldn't be too difficult to find one, and fire Goins into the sun. Wish we'd kept Upton over Goins.

Not that it would of helped. He went in for surgery shortly after getting signed by the Giants and won't even begin rehab for another couple of weeks at best.

Makes sense in hindsight. Jays must not have liked how he looked physically.

Did you guys know Travis had surgery yesterday? I sure didn't...

Tue, Jun 13

Devon Travis underwent surgery to clean up cartilage damage in his right knee.

Advice: Travis is also dealing with a bone bruise and manager John Gibbons acknowledged Tuesday that the second baseman is going to be shut down for "a while." Travis was placed on the disabled list June 6 and there's no real timetable for his return at this point. Darwin Barney and Ryan Goins will continue to cover second for Toronto.

Yeah they talked about it on yesterday's broadcast.

Leblabijian has to be waiting in the wings at this point. Either that or they trade for a 2B. Howie Kendrick still seems like the perfect fit. Can play OF as well. Not sure how much he'll cost though.

Well he should be cheap-ish. .. rental with 10 million dollar contact for this season. Philly would probably want a C-type prospect for him, depending on how many dollars they do or don't retain in any hypothetical deal.

He's in the middle of a major babip fuled hot streak too.

It sounds like his previously injured meniscus was scoped once again. it must have frayed and got caught in his joint. If that is the case I don't know where you go from here. Meniscus doesn't grow back. They can try stuff like Synvisc and other treatments, but I don't know.

I wonder with the Calf injury if the Jays are hesitant to put him at 2B. You would think they would try him out there while he's on a rehab assignment in the minors since thats the place you can do it and not suffer any consequences if he's bad.

Additionally, K/9 up (8.44 to 10.18) and BB/9 down (3.32 to 2.21).

Big difference is the BABIP. .234 last year to .336 this year. Once it normalizes he'll be fine

But what if it IS normalizing!?!? What if THIS is normal?

Could very well be. It takes like 2000 balls in play for a pitchers BABIP to normalize, so last 2 years could be more of an anomaly. However .336 would still be relatively high, and the poor defence this year likely has a lot to do with that combined with some bad luck. For the factors he can control he's definitely improved on the past 2 seasons

His IFFB% is also a career low 7.8%. That will raise the BABIP some but probably not this much.

HR/9 rate is up slightly at 1.44, versus 1.19 and 1.18 the previous 2 seasons. Also HR/FB % is up to 12.7 from 8.7 and 9.9 the past two seasons. So he is not getting torched by the long ball like Tanaka.

I think his approach of focusing on the 4SFB and CH is getting too predictable, and they are on his stuff and making solid contact too often. He needs to use all his pitches more often.

One thing for sure is the Rays REALLY have him figured out, as all 3 times he has faced them so far this season have been disasters (5.0 ip, 5 ER; 6.0 ip, 5 ER; 3.1 ip, 6 ER)
