Maile's fine, for now.

I love his defense, but 3 for 49 is not acceptable. I hope that we're still actively looking for an upgrade and won't hesitate if someone comes along.

Raffy Lopez made some mechanical changes over the winter and has been crushing this season. No idea what his defense is like though.

Adam Lind got his first start in LF in a long time today (7-8 years maybe) for the Nationals and is hitting this year. Should we give Washington a call?

adam lind has hit 4 of the last 5 years. He had an off year last year, but his hit tool has been pretty consistent. I'm not sure about Lindy in the outfield though. I can't imagine why Washington would trade him though. I would be all over Lindy if Morales or Smoak got hurt, but I doubt we'd be able to acquire him.

What are the plans for Biagini when Sanchez comes back does he just go back to the pen? He does seem to have the stuff to stay a starter.

Perhaps when everyone is back, Liriano goes to the pen instead. Though his contract is expiring so maybe Biagini goes back to the pen for a bit to save on innings and then Liriano is traded at the deadline.

Another fringe benefit of that trade is that it made Keith Law look like a tool.

Not really a big benefit when it is fairly commonplace. That guy must be the most insufferable prick in the entire sporting world

The later option seems like the better one to me. Gives you a bit more flexibility at the deadline with Liriano. If you end up keeping him past the deadline, you can still shift him to the 'pen at that point but it also gives you the option of dumping his salary to a team in need of a starting pitcher. If they're still in it, that money could go towards picking up a different contract.

Yeah I agree.

I think Liriano being put in the pen is the best move. Howell's been useless and we shouldn't trust Loup to bear all the work from the left side. Biagini will get several more starts before the rotation is at full strength and this decision needs to be made anyways. So the FO will have more information to make the right decision by then.

As far as maximizing trade value - everyone knows what you get from Liriano by now anyways. Him ripping it up as a starter for the next two months (while the rest the Jays have to suck to be sellers) won't get that much more than him coming out of the BP where the team would need him. As far as protecting Biagini's arm, that makes no sense. He's not going to throw 200 innings this year and he's not 21 years old. Going back and forth as a top BP guy to #6 starter puts a lot more stress on the arm. A role suited much more for Liriano if we're looking at him as being a disposable arm.

Piggyback biagini and liriano

Why?

Then neither is available for 4-5 days and we burn a bench spot.

Or can pitchers who do this still pitch in between "starts"?

Liriano will be starting and he deserves every opurtunity to start. People forget he was really good for us last year. And his 2 worst starts this year came when Martin was not behind the plate. Biagini can return to his bullpen role soon. I really hope they don't rush Happ back tomorrow that would be stupid. They planned for 3 of them and now apparently he's only getting 1. Makes no sense.

Of course he is. The Blue Jays love to rush players back.

Your co-leader for fWAR this season, Justin Smoak at 1.1 with a 145 wRC+. He's basically earned his extension at this point, though we all know that the WAR can of course decline.

Just to clarify, he's earned all $8M right now. We're into the surplus baby! Who on earth ever thought we'd ever talk about surplus value with Smoak?

Not that I think it will or want it to happen, but lets not forget negative WAR is still a thing. He's done it every other year in his career
